Greatest land yacht ever built

General Comments:

I've owned this car for 15 years, and never did anything but change oil and have regular routine maintenance performed.

It was the Bill Blass, dark blue and white with matching dark blue leather interior with white leather piping.

While it was not a sports car, my Mark VIII was it was the most fun I've ever had with a car. If you wished to be noticed, this was the one and only car to drive.

I still regret selling it. I've owned nine Lincolns in the last forty years and the 79 BB was by far my favorite.

The cars paint has faded drastically, seems to be newer than factory.

General Comments:

I love it and will NEVER sell it, even if it ever becomes illegal to drive.

1978 Lincoln Mark V 460 BIG BLOCK

Summary:

This is a smooth powerhouse!

Faults:

I recently bought this car from a private owner and I have had absolutely no problems with it.

General Comments:

This car is great!

As with all older model cars it is a cold starter, but cranks the first time everytime. runs extremely quiet and floats down the road like your riding on air. this car handles very good and steering is so smooth you can use one finger. power? whoa! it definitely has it in that 460 big block. take off is a bit slow at first, but will get down on the interstate. I took it out the other day and ran it good. lets just say it no longer registered the speed, the needle kinda bounced a little, but I left many, many vehicles in the dust.

I had an expedition prior to this car and I have to say, I like my car a lot better. they are about the same on city mpg, but pretty good on hwy mpg.

If you have an opportunity to find one of these, I recommend you take it for a spin and see if you feel the same. I intend on customizing this car, but keeping it's original appearance.

I currently own, along with a 1963 Mercury Turnpike Cruiser, a 1978 Lincoln Mark V Cartier Edition. I bought it in 1993. I paid 600 bucks for it. It was an Arizona car, that was driven through three Rochester NY winters; see, this dump uses road salt in the winter. I decided in the first week after I bought it, nah, no more winters for you.

It has the 400 m V8, two barrel, and this thing will git, and s**t, amazing for such a huge car.

What kills me about this car, is that I have never serviced the air conditioning, and it still will freeze meat. And that except for a minor leak, out the differential pinion, very minor, this damn car does not leak anything.

Since 1993, I have had to replace a smog pump, a water pump, and a starter, that's it... it has been basically stored in a garage since 1997... always starts, this is 2011... and it has 134,000 miles on it, gotta love that Lincoln bulletproof reliability huh???

Summary:

They are dreamboats to drive

General Comments:

I bought my first one from a used car dealer.

It is blue inside and out with moon roof and velvet interior.

The second car was from a private owner. it is exactly the same except for leather seats and no moonroof.

I got 23 mpg on a trip from outside of Cleveland, Ohio to Pittsburgh, Pa. and back using the cruise control set on 70mph.

The cars handled like a tank in the snow. My girlfriend has no problem with driving in bad weather.

The "Collector's Series" edition Town Cars and Mark V's were instant classics due to the fact that they represented an "End of an Era" for the American car as we know it. They were built as a last chance to own a real full size automobile. Lincolns (as well as most other vehicles by this time) were SERIOUSLY down sized in an effort to meet EPA ratings, competition from imports, as well as changing tastes of the American car buyer.

The Collector's Series was meant to be the best and most opulent of any Lincoln, of all time. Many people and critics have varying opinions of whether this was achieved or not. I for one have to say that at the very least, there has not been a more distinctive or commanding presence from a Lincoln ever since. And also, while sharing many features previously seen in the Diamond Jubilee Edition cars, the Collector's Series still seems to up the ante' over its more popular predecessor.

I own a 1979 Midnight Blue Collector's Series Mark V fully optioned. While I own 6 other Marks from the 70's, the 79 always seems to out-class, and even stand out from its siblings. In my opinion, if you are lucky enough to own a Collector's Series Mark V, then you hold a piece of automotive history at least as important as a '57 Chevy or a '59 Cadillac. One day, the automotive world will see this and I shudder at the thought of what these wonderful automobiles will be worth. One day...
