Faults:

The left rear power window does not operate at all.

The right rear power window goes down, but needs "help" to get back up.

The automatic parking brake release operates only when the transmission is shifted to Drive or Low, not in Overdrive (as it should).

The dashboard is cracked.

The padding on the glove compartment door is peeling off slightly.

Driver's door armrest is cracked.

General Comments:

This car is very fun to drive. It has a very smooth ride. The steering has a light feel to it, yet is very precise. The acceleration and braking are smooth and easy.

The electronic message center, which functions as the gauges, is located in a place where it is difficult to see.

The driver's line of sight to the controls for the radio and trip log is blocked by the steering wheel and the gearshift.

The seats are very comfortable and there is a lot of room in the car. I mean a LOT of room!

Air conditioning is ice cold--very nice for a car this old.

There is plenty of room in the trunk for anything you could ever want. And the automatic load-leveling suspension keeps the car level no matter how heavy your stuff is.

The Keyless Entry System is nice, especially when I locked my keys in the trunk. Generally, though, it is easier to get out the keys and open then door than punch in the code.

The car has a great look to it, and the clean lines on the hood make it easy for the driver to see where the edges of the car are. This is very nice, since parking a car this size isn't easy.

Gas mileage is not great, but at about 12 miles/gallon average in the city and 22 on the highway, it's about what you'd expect (or better) for a 4400-lb. car.

All in all, although it isn't perfect, it is a nice car and was worth the price of $1900.

Faults:

Needed new mufflers, brakes and tires at 55,000 miles.

The left rear electric window has stopped working.

The motor was knocking, but retarding the ignition timing 3 degrees as per the Technical Service Bulletin has solved this.

The small hubcaps on the wire wheels keep falling off because of poor design.

General Comments:

It is a very easy car to drive.

I find it very reliable.

It is extremely comfortable.

My kids and their friends just love this car!

It could really use anti-lock brakes, but otherwise it stops OK.

It gets between 21 and 22 MPG on the highway and between 10 and 14 MPG around town, depending on the temperature, your speed and distance traveled etc.

It is comfortable on long trips, but is not fun to park, but the comfort more than makes up for the parking challenges.

Forget about working on it yourself. Everything is hard to get to.

If you like to keep your car a long time and you buy everything when it wears out with a lifetime replacement warranty, you usually do OK financially in the long run with these 1988 Lincoln Town Cars. This is my second 1988 Lincoln Town Car and they are pretty solid vehicles.

The steering and shifting is fingertip easy and it floats down the highway. The brakes could be a tad better, but they are not bad.

They are hard to see out of when backing up, but most cars are a lot worse, even smaller and newer models.

Looks kind of boxy, but the sharp lines let you know where the edges are when you are parking or pulling up to a curb.

Faults:

I've had the mufflers replaced.

Two new front brakes and rotors.

Transmission flushed.

Changed the spark plugs/wires and put a new fuel filter on.

Catalytic converters cracked and had to be replaced... Don't call on an estimate, this will give you a stroke.

General Comments:

I like the way it floats down the road.

The interior is in great shape.

I feel like this car could take me anywhere without any worries at all.

Faults:

Have done the standard old car stuff to this cream puff - alternator, water pump, brakes, exhaust, battery, etc.

Has been a very reliable, comfortable vehicle.

General Comments:

I think this is a great car. Lot's of options and comfort for a small price.
