1991 Lincoln Town Car Signature Series 4.6L

Summary:

Just driving it makes my road rage subside

Faults:

When I first bought the car the seat motors were not working, I waited about a month and they just started working again.

The power antenna stopped going down.

I also replaced the front right hub. this was easy and cheap to fix.

General Comments:

I bought this car for $1,000.00 and expected to put a lot more into it.

I have only spent about $400.00 on this car and it's almost cherry!!!

I'm not sure if other cars would be manufactured if everyone in the world could test drive a Lincoln.

1991 Lincoln Town Car Signature Series 4.6 liter V8

Summary:

Nicely powered luxury vehicle

Faults:

The break lines roted through. Power antenna stopped coming up. Air shocks had to be replaced at about 110,000 miles.

General Comments:

The car has power to get up and go. It's a comfortable car to drive and although not a sports car it handles nicely. The ride is very smooth also.

1991 Lincoln Town Car Executive

Summary:

I found this Lincoln Town Car while scouting for a Cadillac Fleet wood and I purchased the best

Faults:

The right rear brake rotor is damaged because the brake caliper is malfunctioning.

The automatic radio antenna works, but it will not retract properly and completely. Lubrication may fix the problem.

The fuel electric pump fuel pump is very noisy and will need replaced.

The car falters periodically and will not accelerate during the faltering. It resembles water in the gasoline. Have not determined the cause.

The spring in the transport door of the tape player has broken and the door remains open. That will require a removal of the radio to fix.

The spring is broken on the trunk lock cover. That will need replacing before a key can be used.

General Comments:

The car is beautiful overall.

The leather seats are a little hard for long trips, but comfortable because of the selective positioning on the left or right console.

This car has the smoothest and quietest running engine that I have owned and I believe that the fuel injection system is superior too many others.

The ride is smooth and stable during turns and while driving on rutted or badly graded roads.

The gasoline consumption rate is very good for a car it's size. Mixed hilly, curvy, road mixed with smooth highway driving rendered almost 23 mph. I feel that is very good.

Compared to the other manufacturer's large car, The design of the instrument console, the dash, and arm consoles allow simple use and adjustment of the accessories. I especially enjoy the raised switch lever for the drivers window.

My 1991 Lincoln Executive is a sharp looking car with good visibility and lighting.

1991 Lincoln Town Car Executive V8

Summary:

Timeless beauty at a bargain of a price

Faults:

Leaky air suspension.

Heat and A.C. only work on high speed.

Auto door locks.

Leak in exhaust.

General Comments:

I bought this car for a mere $1,200.00 and cannot believe how good time has been to it.

The paint and interior are near flawless and the car rides and drives like a dream.

I will spend about what I paid for the car to take care of the little repairs and live the air suspension.

When done I will have a timeless beauty that still turns heads at the repair shop and on the street.

1991 Lincoln Town Car Presidential Edition/Cartier 4.6L

Summary:

No other cars even compare to it

Faults:

2 Power door locks quit-found at junkyard and installed myself.

Window regulator went bad.

EGR Dirty combined with bad MAF sensor (dealer only part) dealership repair cost 300 bucks.

Brake booster failure-brakes drag.

Starters are small and do not last long, they tend to jam when the battery is starting to go. Had to replace battery and starter at same time.

Leaking vacuum system six dollar t-hose fixed problem.

Car burns a quart of oil for every 1000-1500 miles.

Air bag light flashes all the time and it's expensive to get dealer to fix it.

Clear coat peeled off-expensive to paint if an odd color.

General Comments:

I own two 1991 Lincoln Town Cars. The first one that I own is an Executive Edition that is Dark Cranberry and has 109K miles. I have owned it since 2000 and this year I upgraded to a 1991 Presidential Edition with 88K miles. The Executive has had all the repairs above including the peeling clear coat. These are the best cars out there and cannot be beat for safety, reliability, comfort and longevity. I have seen these cars at auctions with over 200K miles and they still look and run like new and 98% still have the same drive train. They are plagued with small little annoying problems, but if you know what they are you can repair them yourself and save hundreds of dollars. Dealers charge a fortune to work on these cars. Mechanical parts are sometimes the same as the Crown Victoria and Grand Marquis. Don't let people fool you into thinking that it is a "Lincoln Exclusive" part. Everyone that rides in this car loves it and when I tell them how many MPG I get they can't believe it. Overall it averages 15-17 MPG in town and 23-25 MPG on the highway. For an 8 cyl car this is almost a dream, General motors cars do not get this kind of gas mileage. I liked the Executive Edition that I had, but my brother needed a new car so I upgraded to the classier Presidential Edition. I would have kept the other one forever though. Buy one of these cars, you can find them fairly reasonable and when you do you'll never be able to go back to a smaller car or much less anything else.

I had the right hand door lock control fall through the 'hole' into the door panel.

Also I have the 'air bag' light on and it costs too much to fix it. I'll just leave it.

Very unhappy with the Lincoln.

I love my '91 Cartier Town Car. Needed a few odd ball repairs, nothing I couldn't handle myself - except I also have an airbag light flashing all the time. I don't know where to start to replace/repair module. I was told the sending unit on the bumper (two of those) go bad, but I do not know. Car sells for a song and rides like a dream. I highly recommend. '91 was first year with highly reliable 4.6L engine, but old tranny (my is fine). A/C in Fords are not good I am told, but mine cools fine (South Florida).
