2004 Mazda 6
Summary:
Drives nice, but not reliable or durable
Faults:
Replaced the alternator 3 times. First one 3 years ago, it lasted less than one year (alternator replaced under warranty, but had to pay the labor), the next one lasted 2 years. We are now on the third replacement and fourth alternator. Each repair runs ~$1000.
Had the same problem as a previous writer from Toronto, where the car quit leaving us stranded, but fortunately we were on a side street, but it was in the middle of a snow storm.
Front suspension is moaning and groaning. Asked the dealer to inspect and they could not find a safety problem. Sounds to me like the rubber bushing have dried out.
Brake pedal also moans.
General Comments:
This car does not have the reliability and quality I expected.
Looks like we will be heading back to the Honda dealer for the next car.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No

I would disagree with the statement that Mazdas don't last. I'm sorry the 6 has been your impression of the brand. I've had an RX7, a Protege, driven a Mazda5 for a time, and have a Mazda6. The 6 is by far the least durable, and the most finicky about everything. Mazda however does have a history of making solid cars, such as the Protege I had, which never left me stranded.
