2000 Mazda 626 ES 4 cylinder

Summary:

I hate this car!!

Faults:

Transmission is already shot!! (at 80k miles).

Ignition wiring replaced at 76k.

Automatic door locks go haywire.

Bolts on wheels have rusted in place.

General Comments:

I am currently a college student who has had to take some time off of school for financial reasons. I bought this car to replace my last one, which blew a head gasket at 115k.

Everything I had read and heard about the 626 was very positive; I thought I was buying a reliable car. I drive to work everyday and was hoping to have enough money put away to return to school this January. Now, thanks to my Mazda, I am going to have to spend most of my savings on a new transmission! I have had this car for less than a year and it has been nothing but frustration. Needless to say, I will never buy another Mazda again.

You have been very unlucky, it seems at some point in the cars life it may have been driven to the extremes of harshness. This is not normal Mazda.

I bought my 99 new and the problems began during the first two years of ownership. Ten years later and with only 68k on the clock, the problems never stopped.

Hmmm, where to begin: two of the four door locks failed within the first four years, the trunk leaked, dash lights quit working, power antenna failed, I've replaced over a half-dozen coolant reservoirs, replaced the radiator, cam position sensor, and the alternator quit working yesterday. The car also leaks oil like a siv.

As soon as the economy picks up this poor excuse for a car is gone. I really do hate my Mazda 626.

2000 Mazda 626 LX

Faults:

First of all, I bought the car used. It had 74,000 miles on it. A couple of my friends had 626's and they seemed like great cars. So far, ever since I bought it, the belts have squealed. Now it is in the shop being checked for that.

Exactly one week after I bought it the linkage broke... It connects the shifter and the transmission and allows it to go into gear.

My compact disc player will go blank and freeze up for no reason. You have to play with the volume button to get it to come alive again.

I miss the body style of the older 626's, but it is still a smooth ride. I like the isolating air conditioner vents.

I would also give this car an A+ on gas mileage. It is a 4 cylinder and is very reasonable on gas. But again, I've only had it almost two weeks...

2000 Mazda 626 ES V6

Summary:

Too costly to maintain

Faults:

At 57,000 miles I had to have all of the wiring redone in the engine. This cost about $950.00.

The radiator cracked and was leaking radiator fluid at 54,000 miles. Repairing that was luckily covered by the warranty.

The "leather" seats started cracking at 22,000 miles.

And now at 60,800 miles, exactly eight hundred miles out of warranty, my transmission is eating itself from the inside, out. So far the estimated cost of this repair would be $2,600.00.

The car is actually only worth around $6,000.00 at most.

General Comments:

Never again will I buy another Mazda.

Yes, I bought a 99 mazda 626 two years ago with 64,000 miles on it. o/d light flashed on first trip, but then two years go by. I am evacuating for a hurricane and transmission fluid starts pouring out onto my engine block smoking like crazy. I had it drained and refilled, never happened again. even stranger when I took it in for diagnostic test it show nothing wrong. My check engine light came on twice and turned off after an oil change both times, loose wire I guess. louisiana girl with no luck, the trans. says ford right on it!
