1991 Mazda B2200

Summary:

Size doesn't matter!!!

Faults:

This little beast has been through it all, but despite routine and preventative maintenance there has been nothing wrong with the truck.

The only problem I incur around every 3 years is a rotted out exhaust, which is mainly due to short trips. I can handle a $200 dollar repair every 3 years. Around 100K miles, body rot began to develop around bumpers and door panels, but it's a New England truck!!!

There was a recall on the spoked wheels, but the dealer handled that with no problems.

General Comments:

For the hamsters this truck has under the hood (2.2 liter), it managed to transport my military bottom for 7 strong years from New England to Texas to Mississippi to New Orleans to Ohio to Nevada, and back to Ohio!!!

Don't under estimate the reliability this little truck has to provide despite it's simplicity!!!

1991 Mazda B2200 SE 5 2.2L carb

Summary:

Cheap, reliable and has potential

Faults:

When I got this truck the right (driver's side) bright head light and driving light didn't work once in a while. That stopped a few weeks ago and works fine now.

The heater/cooling (not A/C) blow at the same time, hot to windshield for defrost and cooling through the dash and foot vents. It only blows on the 2 highest fan settings, the first 2 don't work.

The receiver (Clarion 2261) plays tapes alright, but I can't figure out how to program a radio station. The display doesn't work, all I get is an orange light. Two 4" speakers isn't much to work with unless you remount speakers or add larger speakers or subs.

I'm not sure if these came with tilt steering, but it would be a nice feature for a more comfortable setting.

The "Dumby Locks" are great for someone who owns it or drives it a lot, but your passengers might not remember to hold the handle out and leave it unlocked.

General Comments:

It is a great little truck, mine has a carb so I get more power than the FI.

It handles like a car, which is great if you plan on adding aftermarket parts (I plan on sound system and possibly air bags).

It has normal to above average power for a 4 cylinder of it's size (in a truck).

It is easy on gas, and the parts are cheap, this is overall a great truck. I highly recommend this truck to anyone who wants a cheap and efficient mini (1/4 ton) truck.

Umm, fuel injection gives more power than a carb.

You mentioned you were thinking about installing airbags. I have a '91 B2200 and was interested in that also. Have you looked into it and if so how much does it cost?

1991 Mazda B2200

Summary:

A nice little truck that gets the job done

Faults:

It has little problems starting, but after a couple of tries, it will go.

The oil goes down pretty quickly.

It stalls a lot when first started up.

General Comments:

This is my first car, and it definitely will do. It is a nice small truck that gets me were I need to go. It is nothing great, but I am only 17, and I am very happy with it.

1991 Mazda B2200

Summary:

Happy little thing

Faults:

The slave cylinder has gone on me.

It puffs blue smoke when I first start her up.

I do need to put about 1 liter of oil in every 1-2 weeks.

The windshield wiper motor blew out on me.

General Comments:

All in all this little truck has done me well. I have put that girl through a lot and she keeps going for me.

1991 Mazda B2200

Summary:

The little truck that can

Faults:

Seats have worn and they have been very uncomfortable right from the get go.

Carpet has worn at the door.

Oil leaks slowly.

At 224000 km. it would blow blue only on start-up and only until it was warm.

Gas gauge stopped working at 210000 km.

Thank ogd for the trip meter.

Have had some problems with the carburetor.

Very costly to replace tail lights, even used. (Vandalism)

Total rebuild of the engine at 255400 km. including seat, and valves.

General Comments:

This has been an overall awesome truck.

Has hauled some awfully big loads with a utility trailer attached and still makes it up the Hope-Princeton Highway. without a problem.

Once the engine was rebuilt, due to continuous blue smoke no matter how long you let it warm up, it has run without a problem.

Cost for the rebuild was approx $800.00 so for the years I have had the truck it has far exceeded any cost I have put into it.

Regular maintenance is the most I've really spent on it.
