1993 Mazda B2200 Extended Cab 2.2L carb

Summary:

Rides like a Cadillac

Faults:

Presently have bad oil seal guides that cause it to smoke first thing in the morning, and after sitting for a long time.

Interior is wearing out, and currently looking for a new dash and other interior parts.

Roof is fading from a bad paint job, and the hard cover is splintered from the same thing.

Hole in my exhaust manifold, which you can obviously hear. Should have listened to my buddy and took off all of the emissions stuff years ago.

Replaced parts:

New clutch.

Used transmission (gotten over 125,000).

New master and slave cylinder.

New wheel bearing, alternator, starter, tie rods, sway bar and bushings, and ball joints.

Belts.

A/C just stopped working, so I will need a new compressor, accumulator drier, and orifice tube.

It does lack power on hills, but after reading this message board, I will definitely try out a K&N filter.

General Comments:

Nice truck overall, which I got from a dealer who actually made a mistake in the advertised price, and had to sell it to me for a reduced price.

It had 70,000 miles on it when I bought it, and now has 235,000, and has been all over the U.S. Moved around a lot in the Air Force.

Hardtop on the bed with a lockable latch, which is very nice.

5-speed manual transmission helps with gas mileage.

Added some clear headlights, white tail-lights and white side marker lamps to accent my chrome wheels.

Never going to give up this truck, and will drop another motor in it once this one quits on me. Leaning towards getting a crate motor.

I think anyone who doesn't like this truck, probably abused it, because it is very durable in the heat and the cold.

Best decision I have made regarding a used vehicle, and riding with my buddy for a week in his single cab Nissan, made me surely get the extended cab, and mine has the bench seat.

My two Schnauzers love the sliding rear window. The rest of the family wants me to get something bigger and better, but they don't know what I know.

For those who read this and have a B2200, I would advise joining an on-line Mazda group or club in order to find out how to maintain your vehicle, where to get the best parts from, and the best deals.

Good Luck... B-Dubb.

This truck rides like a Cadillac, eh?

I doubt you have ever ridden in a Cadillac; they are much more comfortable than a compact pickup!

Suspect the Cadillac reference was tongue in cheek.

Have not seen the "oops we advertised the wrong price, so we'll have to sell it to you for that price" scam by the dealer in some time though.

I'm sure the saying "it rides like a Cadillac" is just a expression. No one expects a truck to ride like a Caddy anyway. I have one 92 B2200, and it does ride rather smooth.

1993 Mazda B2200 2.2

Summary:

Like a trusty old dog

Faults:

Smokes on start-up.

General Comments:

Great reliable no-frills truck. This baby never let me down. Engine still ran great after 462,000 kms. Smoked on start-up but no other problems.

Would still be driving it if the chassis hadn't rusted after these awful Newfoundland winters.

The truck is still being used to cart welding tanks around the scrap yard I turned it in to. Have a 2008 Mazda b4000 now. I realize it's a Ford Ranger. Too bad Mazda still doesn't make its own trucks in North America. Better than any Toyota.

1993 Mazda B2200 2.2

Summary:

Simple and durable, just watch out for head gasket trouble

Faults:

Head gasket at 200,000KM.

General Comments:

Reliable and simple as others have noted. BUT - the head gaskets are weak and very problematic, sometimes even after being repaired. Be careful when buying a B2200 over 100,000 miles (160,000km).
