2004 Mazda MPV LX 3.0 V6 gasoline
Summary:
Great while new, disappointing in the long run
Faults:
Replaced numerous ignition coils over the last 20,000 miles.
Complete transmission failure at 72,000 miles.
Sliding door would not open requiring dealer to fix.
General Comments:
The MPV initially was a very reliable car. This is my wife's car and we kept it well maintained. The problems first started with the ignition coils. At first just one needed to be replaced. Then 2 more. Then even some of the new coils needed to be replaced. Apparently the back 3 coils have a known problem with corrosion.
Just recently however the car started stuttering severely. It felt like the engine was misfiring again so I took it back to the shop to have more coils replaced. Unfortunately it was the transmission and after fully inspecting it, the transmission had failed. To have the transmission completely rebuilt, cost $2,600.
At this point I think we are done with this car. Done throwing money at it.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No
