1992 Mazda MX3 RS 1.6

Summary:

Quick, cute little rice rocket

Faults:

Just basic repairs have been needed (oil change, tune up, etc.) I am also due to replace my back struts soon.

The interior of the car is still in excellent shape!

General Comments:

This is one FUN car to drive! I love it.

It has fantastic cornering - so much different from my other car (Monte Carlo SS.)

That's funny I just gave up my 86 Monte Carlo for my now 93 Mazda mx3 gs 5 speed 1.8L, first I was depressed cause I sunk a lot of money in my Monte, but now I go twice as far with half the gas and this mx3 could probably keep up with the Monte!

1992 Mazda MX3 GS V6 1.8L

Summary:

A quick, small, head turner

Faults:

All that I have replaced on the car is the Rear tires. Everything else is perfect.

My brother owned the car before me, and he had it for 3-4 years. The work he has done is more detailed. When he got the car he replaced the Transmission within the first year. Due to the guy putting it in not knowing what he was doing that Transmission failed within 6 months. He replaced it again having another shop do the work, and the transmission runs perfect. Great shifting and smooth. He also replaced the water pump late last year (seems to be an issue with MX-3's) And other small matainance repairs (brakes tires oil tune up etc.)

General Comments:

The speed upgrade for me is the best. I went from a 4 cyl. 1991 Honda CRX to this car, and love it.

Turns a lot of heads as well.

The car is pretty much stock, except for window tint, and some small extra's.

The Mile per gallon is not that great. The car gets about 230 Miles per full tank of gas. My CRX doubled that.

Comfort isn't as bad as others are saying. If you can handle a CRX or any sporty car then this isn't much different. IT's a little tough getting out of when you are tired, or dragging, but other than that long rides aren't a problem.

1992 Mazda MX3 RS 1.6L

Summary:

Endless possibilities!

Faults:

Not much. The only things I have came across are things that demand attention with an older car like this.

General Comments:

I love this car...

1992 Mazda MX3 RS 1.6 SOHC

Summary:

A healthy competitor

Faults:

Nothing really, except for the things I caused.

General Comments:

When the car was stock it was pretty sweet, but once I started modifying it became a monster. After market parts aren't readily available, but fabrication and customizing along with universal parts yielded massive power gains. In Addition, weight reduction drastically helped performance.

A car that has just as much bite as it does bark all the way to red-line and gets 34 miles to the gallon is pretty impressive in my book.

1992 Mazda MX3 GS 1.8 Gasoline

Summary:

Expensive to maintain performance car

Faults:

I have had to put a clutch in. The CV joints went bad. Tires go bad often and are expensive to replace.

General Comments:

The car is a very good for street racing and performance.

It has lots of performance for the small engine it has.

It has very good handling although the steering itself is a bit rough.

It's not as good on gas as I thought it would be.

The seats are very uncomfortable.

General road travel will cause the interior of the car to rattle and drive you nuts.

1992 Mazda MX3 GS 1.8 V6

Summary:

Fun, fast, economical to run, but $$$ to repair

Faults:

Distributor failed at 80,000 miles.

2nd distributor failed at 160,000 miles.

Air conditioning compressor failed at 70,000 miles.

Will not idle smoothly. Revs between 750 and 1,500 RPM (Mystery!).

Aftermarket brake rotors seem to be made of compressed rags which have been spray-painted to look like real metal. Using the fourth rear set now. Watch out for this!

On my fifth (I think) set of plug wires.

General Comments:

Fun little car to drive. I've tried not to like it, but find it impossible.

If you can afford the repairs, it's a blast.

The revving between 750 and 1500 rpms. It's your EGR valve, have it replaced.
