2000 Mazda Protege LX 1.8
Summary:
Great college vehicle - Worth Keeping
Faults:
Well, so far the vehicle has not had any mechanical problems. There is a small rush spot where the seal on the window lifted, but that is nothing. (know someone that works at a body shop.)
The vehicle has evidently been rust protected and the kilometres are all highway. Bought as a trade in from a Honda Dealer.
The sunroof squeeks as it opens, but it works.
I need to get the A/C recharged/Repaired. But honestly, I can live without. I like having the wind flowing through the car as opposed to air conditioning (My contacts dry out from the air conditioning)
General Comments:
Slow to start - but when you get in 3rd there is plenty of "Zoom Zoom"
Highway cruising speed is easily reached and passing is made effortlessly.
My vehicle has alloy wheels, spoiler and sunroof so it's a real eye catcher - I wouldn't change a thing.
Handles like a dream, the YOKOHAMA low profile tires amaze me with their gripping capability.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

I agree with you.
I bought a 2000 Mazda Protege about a month ago.
Every service has been done on it, including synthetic oil, and it runs like new. I have the 1.6 with auto.
I am glad to read you get 38 MPG, because I get 40 MPG at 55MPH on back road highways. I was so shocked, I stopped three times on a long trip for gas because I figured I had to be off. The last time I stopped, I could only put 1.02 gallons of gas in the car to the top of the filler after traveling 43 miles. No doubt, the car gets 40-41 MPG on flat roads at a constant 2500 RPM, and it handles like a true sports car.
Great car, I love it, I will keep it for a long time.
