2005 Mazda Tribute i 2.3 16v

Summary:

Best for the money

Faults:

-The "engine light" came on while we were passing at 75+ mph. We took it to the dealer as soon as we could and they said that a chip in the engine computer wasn't properly installed. After they took care of this it hasn't happened again.

-One month after we bought it there was an annoying cracking noise from the rear suspension, but it simply disappeared after some time.

General Comments:

-It's a very nice entry level SUV. If you ask me it is the best looking in the class and it is preety sporty. The interior is quiet and roomy and there is a fair ammount of space in the back. The only thing that I don't like is the rear seats. They are preety flat and there's no fold-down arm rest in the middle seat.

The 2.3L engine is very good and fast and the gear-shift is precise and sporty. I would recommend the 2.3 over the 3.0 engine because the 3.0 is unreliable, it's not much faster, and you can only get it with an automatic, which makes it preety expensive. Also manual shift with 4x4 costs the same as an automatic with front-wheel-drive, so if I were you I would get the 4x4 with a manual.

2005 Mazda Tribute S 4wd 3.0L V6

Summary:

Great SUV for the money!

Faults:

Driver-side sun-visor loose. Replaced under warranty.

General Comments:

This is an SUV that drives like a car.

Quiet and comfortable interior.

Awesome V6 engine and transmission!

4WD provides excellent traction in mud and rain.

Brakes stop on a dime!

More standard features on the Tribute than the Ford Escape sibling.

Only complaints are the cheap remember-it's-made-by-Ford plastics and the lack of center armrest for rear passengers.

2005 Mazda Tribute i 2WD 4 cylinder

Summary:

Great

Faults:

I have had the car for only 4 months, and I have not had any problems.

General Comments:

For an SUV, it rides very smoothly.

I like the fact that it is a front wheel drive.

It is not as peppy as I had hoped, I probably should have bought the V-6.

I have a Mazda Tribute 05 and have a noise in the front end when the wheels drop into a bump. It is very anoying. The dealer said they all do it. Get no satisfaction when I asked for a test drive in another vehicle. Have you heard of anyone else with this complaint.

Yes have the same problem and have spent a lot of money not to have it fixed. I'm pretty sure my dealer was guessing that it was the front right control arm bushing because after replacing it the noise is still there.

Yes the V-6 is peppy compared to the 4cyl.

Take a look at the sway bars, I had to have mine replaced on my 05 Tribute. Also the transmission is slipping in and out or gear, most of the time I have no reverse. Don't know what the problem is.
