1994 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E320 Cabriolet 6 cylinder
Summary:
Possibly one of the most outstanding vehicles ever produced!
Faults:
The 1994 Mercedes E320 is an outstanding performer, IF well cared for over the miles.
OEM radio volume control fails, but can be repaired by an independent radio shop.
Most importantly, however, is that when the ignition key fails to operate, replacement is proprietary to Mercedes Benz. The new key cylinder must be purchased from a dealer, and proof of ownership of the car is also required. The cost to replace mine was just over $1800, and the dealership botched re-keying.
Would have preferred to use my private mechanic, but he said Mercedes would not provide the key cylinder!
General Comments:
A serene motoring experience is the general impression. The heating and cooling control system is not as straightforward as it could be, but usually gets there in the end. The lack of a glove box is surprising and a bit inconvenient, though there is a modified unit in the armrest.
The louvered door over the storage area below the armrest is easily damaged, and the seat belt feeders are OK when they work, though inconvenient when broken; would prefer normal seat belts.
Otherwise, this is an amazingly smooth, quiet and elegant auto, with outstanding get up and GO!!!
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes
