General Comments:

When I first bought this car, I thought it was the fastest thing on the road. I was wrong. I guess anything seems fast after driving a 4 cylinder mini van. Now when the boost kicked in, it became very peppy. I use the word peppy because it wasn't fast.

I began searching for performance parts to put this car to the test. Parts are hard to find. After a performance exhaust system, air intake system, and manual boost controller was installed it will blow the doors off of most anything.

The car weighs practically nothing so small increases in horsepower really make a difference. Currently, I believe my 0-60 time is in the low 6 second range and I'm boosting around 12psi.

I am currently working on getting a new performance computer which will allow me to boost at 16psi, but I won't go over 15. I have heard of other owners who have done this and they run the quarter mile in the low 13 second range. To give you an idea of how fast that is, 13.3 seconds is what the Corvette Z06 runs the quarter in.

This car is awesome if your willing to put the money into it.

The only fault I have about the engine is that it should have been turned around. The turbo is right by the radiator and it heats the radiator (which sort of defeats its purpose).

I was wondering I am about to purchase a red 1991 mercury Capri XR2 turbo it has an ignition problem, the kid wants 600 dollars for it, and I was just wondering if this is a good deal, and also if anyone knows of any common ignitions problems for these cars----please help me, I'm just a teenage mechanic trying to fix up low budget import race car. Thank You.

I just bought a 91 XR2, and would like to know where to buy the exhaust, intake, waste gate, and computer?

I love this car! It's hard to find performance parts though!

I have just bought a 91 Mercury Capri xr2. This car is like cotton candy, it's sweet for the heart, and disappears quickly down the road like cotton candy disappearing in your mouth.

Summary:

The boost will blow you away!

Faults:

The driver's seat is wearing badly.

The top is going down hill.

Mirrors do not work.

The car gets very hot.

General Comments:

When I first saw the Capri, I liked the over all design, I especially liked the look of the car with the top down. The fist time I drove the car, the power that the small four cylinder put out amazed me. Everything about the engine, the sound, the vibration, the pull, etc. It just felt good to drive it. The steering was very solid and it turns on a dime (a very comforting feeling). I love it when people challenge me to a street race now, they think there car is all that, then the boost kicks in and I blow their doors off. I love it.

1991 Mercury Capri

Summary:

Best car I have ever owned!

Faults:

When first purchased the car it over heated from a bad hose. Very lucky that was the only problem considering it sat for a year.

General Comments:

This was the best car I have ever owned. It was fast and sporty. Not too mention roomy considering the type of automobile. Like most convertible owners I had problems wiht the roof leaking, but a minor problem that was soon overlooked when I walked to the driveway and saw this beauty sitting there. I am not really a car person, but soon fell in love with every aspect of the great design and power.
