1965 Mercury Comet Cyclone GT 6.4 390 ci
Summary:
A high performance machine!!!
Faults:
The car is a 1966 Mercury Comet Cyclone GT. It has been sitting in my grandmother's garage since 1982. She gave it to me to work on for myself to drive, and my dad used to work on cars all the time when he was a kid, so he helped me.
The only thing wrong with it was that when it was parked, the power steering assist cylinder leaked, and over time the shocks in the rear, which are air adjusted, leaked. But that is about it.
Some fine tuning had to be done, including a complete rebuild on the carb, but even when we tried starting it without the carb being tuned or rebuilt, the engine ran like a dream. The 390 4V engine is one of the best built.
General Comments:
The car is very powerful, with a 9 inch Ford rear end with posi, which means both wheels drive in the rear, and 427 pounds of torque, and 335 horsepower, this thing is a machine.
The only change I have to make is put new head on so it can accept unleaded regular fuel, not the racing fuel, which is 4.29 per gallon here in state. Other than that, I love the car, and to top it off, it is a convertible. My friends love it, even though it's not on the road yet!!!
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

Guess ole granny did some serious driving (on racing fuel, no less) to have accumulated 637,300 miles in 16 years.
Course, the odometer only goes up to 99,999 so how would you know that it got up to such high mileage?
