A very cheap and reliable car
Nothing has gone wrong with the car since we got it. The only thing we had to do with it so far is get two new tires on the front. It shifts really slow.
It is a wonderful car, comfy, family car, the works. Great gas mileage. Me and my husband love it.

Since I purchased the car VERY reasonably and still drive it, it's a HIGH performance bargain!
Nylon fuel lines started leaking at 100,000 miles.
Have replaced the front brakes frequently.
New exhaust system at 110,000 miles.
Oil pan rusted out at 80,000 miles.
Water pump at 100,000 miles.
I'm used to driving LARGE cars with big blocks, i.e. (400 cubic inches and up) so it took a little time to get used to the 302ci engine, but power is adequate.
Although I heard that gas mileage was horrible on these cars, my personal experience is that it returns respectable numbers for a car of this size.
I have removed the mufflers and installed straight pipes from the catalytic converters back, which improved mileage. The loudness of this conversion is not bad as the exhaust is muffled by the catalytic converters.
Loaded with features, leather and all the other options you can imagine, except for CD player and automatic headlights.
I have installed alloy wheels and the springs and sway bars from a 1989 Crown Victoria police car, along with KYB shocks, so handling is excellent.
I have also installed a B&M shift kit and transmission cooler, so shift feel is vastly improved.

Very nice and comfortable vehicle
Front brakes failed due to broken front brake hose.
Heater temperature sensor failed, causing the "Floor" position of climate control switch not to function.
Intake manifold gasket leaked coolant, and is currently being replaced, along with all upper intake gaskets, and all coolant hoses.
This car handles well, and has good power.
Very comfortable ride, very quiet interior noise level.
However, if the window is slightly open, and it is raining, the rain rolls off the roof and right onto the armrest. No rain gutter.

A big time cruiser
A coolant hose to the radiator dry rotted and it needed to be replaced.
-Handles very poorly in the rain.
-Tires wear qickly.
-Very fast.
-neons helped to brighten up the blood red velour interior.

This is a wonderful luxury car!
The starter solenoid broke. That was cheap to fix, though.
It needed a new battery shortly after I bought it.
It burned a lot of oil when I first bought the car. That has been fixed with many engine additives, though.
The air conditioning was weak when I bought it. That was very expensive to recharge.
It needed a new throttle position sensor, that was very cheap to fix.
This car was a great decision. It was very cheap, especially for a luxury car.
Nothing major has gone wrong with it since I bought it, even though it is a high mileage car.
The engine still runs very smoothly, and I get great gas mileage; about 27 mpg highway and about 22 mpg city. Sometimes even better.
The car is very quiet and comfortable. It has a soft velvet interior and a lot of leg room, even for the rear passengers.
It has a lot of luxuries; power seats, power windows, cruise control, power mirrors, air conditioning, about 13 interior lights, automatic high beams, etc. The list goes on!
The car performs surprisingly well. Although it is generally sluggish, it doesn't get any worse. Even if you stuff the car with cargo and passengers, it still has the same amount of power.
Turning is more difficult than in a smaller car, though!

We own a 1987 Mercury Marquis with a 302 fuel injected V8 engine. We purchased the car used, it was a one owner with 135,000 km on it.
It now has 400,000 km and doesn't appear ready to die just yet. Doesn't burn any oil, lots of engine oil leaks.
I have serviced it religiously since buying it.IE: replacement of transfluid (including converter via trans flush and add new fluid) replaced battery once, new brakes all around, new front rotors, front & rear shocks, heater core, fan hub, water pump, plugs twice, plug wires, rotor and re-fit to air conditioner so it would function with the environmentally friendly coolant.
We plan on keeping it until it expires. However, it has developed a problem that no mechanic I have taken it to can solve.
Especially at startup, the engine races to the point where it almost gets up to full engine RPM. It gets a little scary and "usually" it does die down after a while.
I have replaced the heat sensor on front of engine that determines fast idle until engine warms... still does it, although not quite as bad.
I have replaced / cleaned the Oxygen sensor. No body wants to tackle it because of it's age.
Oh yes, I have also replaced the fuel filter, fan belt (serpentine belt) and windshield wiper motor.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

The rain gutter was an option I should have gotten. My Mercury is highly polished and when it rains a lot of water bubbles collect on the roof -- just waiting for me to open the door because the minute I sit, giving the car a tilt, I get a flood. I've leaned to enter very, very quickly when it is wet.
