1994 Mercury Grand Marquis LS 4.7L V8
Summary:
Be careful when purchasing your Grand Marquis
Faults:
When I first got this car, it ran great.
After about 200 miles the ride began to shake when I accelerated. It began to make noises under the hood.
I went to get it fixed and they claimed there was nothing that I could do and the car was too old. Then, the brakes began to squeak and the turn signals stopped blinking. This all happened at around 79,000 miles.
Paint is also scratched in a few places.
Very shaky ride continues at 82,000 miles after oil changes and tune ups.
General Comments:
This car is said to be a smooth riding machine, but it can be far from that. The car can come unreliable even with frequent tune ups and check ups. The Grand Marquis is a generally nice car, but please test it A LONG TIME and go to a mechanic before you purchase yours. It can become a nightmare.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No

I have a 1994 Grand too, the shake started a year ago. I replaced the plugs and wires and it went away for a while... but it is back. My whole thing is that my exhaust is starting to sound bad so I think it is a compression problem. And as for the transmission although it is good for the car, the shake occurs at any speed, gear, or rpm... even slightly in park (at least for me). It seems like possible timing even... but I don't know about that. Any guesses about the shakes (besides apparent drug withdrawals) would be greatly helpful.

Transmission problems on several 93s possibly 94. Shifting from second to third on automatic will make you feel like your are driving over a wash board. Flush transmission fluid and problem will go away for 10K or so.
