Faults:

I have not even been able to drive it since buying it, because as soon as I fix one problem, something else breaks.

Head gasket, alternator, fuel pump, MAP sensor, EGR valve power windows don't work, top radiator hose. Frankly I could go on all day listing things that have broke on this money pit.

General Comments:

Ford should no longer be allowed to make cars or trucks. This makes the third broke down Ford sitting in my driveway. Thank god I still have my trusty 1988 Olds Delta 88 made by GM that is happily getting me and family to work school etc.

After researching Fords on the internet, I'm just glad one of these vehicles has not killed me or a loved one. If you are considering buying any Ford product, RUN AWAY AS FAST AS YOU CAN!!!

Faults:

Exhaust O2 sensor replaced twice.

Radiator fan replaced.

Fan belt idler replaced twice.

Timing belt replaced.

Ball joints replaced.

Transmission pump gasket failed, transmission rebuilt.

Motor mounts are worn and could be replaced.

Thermostat replaced.

AC/Heater blower motor replaced.

Temperature gauge falsely reads high, known problem on Mystiques & Contours. Actual engine temperature is OK.

General Comments:

Has been reliable transportation for almost 12 years. Still fully functional, all accessories work. Still capable & safe for long trips. Has always driven well and is fun to drive.

Except for transmission (a $1400 repair), fewest repairs over lifetime than any other car I've owned. Only downtime was during transmission rebuild.

Mileage still averages about 30 highway, engine compression still good after 160,000 miles. I expect this car still will be drivable at 200,000 miles.

Only one chronic problem; prone to flooding for sub-zero starts. Dealer admitted engine design flaw, advised garage! I've adapted.

This car has me willing to try a Mercury again, when the time comes.

Faults:

Since I purchased with only 39000 miles on it, the timing tensioners, timing belt, water pump, EGR valve, front springs, O2 sensors and driver window switch assembly all went out within 3000 miles. I have replaced the battery twice, plug wires, plugs, O2 sensors and EGR valve myself. It sat for 2 weeks in the snow and was not driven. After 2 weeks the front springs broke in half at the same time. When it rains, the car won't start, it surges at low RPM's, clock doesn't work, high blower settings don't work on heat or AC, runs hot all the time, trunk doesn't stay up, rear doors are VERY noisy even after lube, cup holders broke as did the replacement, drivers side seatbelt retractor cover fell off and is broken, gas door cable broke, trunk leaks A lot of water, tail lights leak water, brakes have been replaced 4 times as they warp very fast, WHEW... out of breath. Antenna doesn't go up or down, vents fell apart, all tensioner pulleys have been replaced more than once, drivers door lock sticks and you can open the door 95 percent of the time. It doesn't open with a key or with the handle. I crawl over the passenger seat to get in most of the time. I think I am going to cut the roof off and plant a garden inside. Seems to be the only thing its good for. NO MORE MERCURYS EEEEEVER AGAIN.

General Comments:

Use to drive and handle great.

Too many bad experiences to list again. Not much good from this car.
