1999 Mercury Mystique LS 2.5L V6

Summary:

Really special. Fast!

Faults:

Well, before I got the current Mystique, I had a '98 that I wrecked by falling asleep at the wheel. Ended up flipping the car at 6o MPH. I escaped with minor bruises and a bloody nose. Now it's really busted, but that's not the manufacturer's fault. My '98 also had the sticky trunk release.

General Comments:

This car is fantastic. I liked it so much that after I flipped the last one, I immediately sought out and purchased another one.

This new one has antilock brakes and Traction Control. Very advanced.

Handles like a nice dream. Highway entrance ramps that post a speed limit can usually be doubled without complaints from the tires.

Have you had problems with your dash panel curling up. If so what did you do to remedy it. Were you able to get any help from Ford Motor Co.? There was a recall on that, but I wasn't aware of it till too late. It had expired supposedly before my complaint. I am pretty much happy with my Mystique. A few problems, but nothing major. It needs rear struts at 85,000 miles and the A/C is slowly leaking freon.I'm told it will cost $700-$800 to repair A/C.Have you encountered any of these same problems.

I'd like to hear from you regarding your experiences with this little car. Over all I give mine a B+.You can e-mail me at bogeyman901 at Yahoo dot com.

Thanks for your time,

1999 Mercury Mystique GS 4 cylinder

Summary:

Not a quality car

Faults:

The timing belt has been replaced three times in the last 10 months. No one can really seem to figure out why.

General Comments:

There seems to be something that makes these belts break. And this gets to be very expensive over a period of time.

I just had the second belt go out on my 1999 in less than 10,000 miles. Did you ever find a cure for yours?

I had my timing belt go bad 200 miles ago and now it's bad again. It's been replaced and then my check engine light came on. Now they save my crank may be loose. So the mechanics say that I need either a new crank or a new engine. If the crank is loose, then the timing belt keeps sliding and rubbing. Have a look at your crank to see if it's tight.

1999 Mercury Mystique 4 cylinder

Summary:

A wonderful, high performance, low maintenance family car that is a good bargain and looks nice

Faults:

Dash vent guard was recalled.

Trunk release sometimes doesn't release.

Driver window motor had to be replaced.

General Comments:

I love my Mercury Mystique. You can only tell that you are driving a 4 cylinder motor on a very, very steep hill. The seats are comfortable. It is economical. I bought it used and got a really good deal. My interior still looks brand new. The cabin comfort is exceptional. The cabin is comfortable to me.. a 5'2" female. This is a rare trait for a car. The trunk is wonderfully large. My car has not needed much up-keep. I love my Mystique.
