2000 Mercury Mystique LS Duratec 24v 2.5L V6
Summary:
A drivers car all the way!
Faults:
Had the defroster vent pop-up several times. Replaced at 36,000 miles.
Leather seats worn badly.
General Comments:
I just bought my 2000 Mercury Mystique LS. I bought the LS model with the Duratec 2.5L 24V V6. It has a automatic transmission which is extremely smooth. The engine has smooth acceleration and pics up rather quickly. I must say that this Mystique handle better then my friends 2002 BMW M3. The suspension is excellent and the stock tires don't slip too much taking corners around track at around 60 mph. My only complaint about the car would be the brakes. I feel they are not up to par for this level of refinement. I must say that this car is very large on the inside. I am 6'4" and I fit rather well. The leather seats are very cozy, but mine are worn badly. I have had no problems with the car except for the ones stated above. This car does take a lot of gas, but that is expected being a V6. This car is not only nimble, but is very fast. I have beat a 2004 Ford Mustang with the 2.8L V6 at the drag strip more than once. This is indeed a poor man's BMW.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

To the previous commenter:
Good show, old boy.
To the commenter before that:
I agree with the other commenter in believing your words to have been rather uppity. A bit pompous. I believe that a serious regard for the truth and the facts should indeed be kept by all who post comments and reviews anywhere online. But the owner of this 2000 Mystique personally feels it to be at least comparable to a BMW. And, in describing the Mercury Mystique as a "poor man's BMW" I must say the reviewer got it right. That describes the Mystique as well as any phrase could.
But, having not owned either car, I am not but so well qualified to speak. Good review by the owner, and good show, everyone else, for keeping the review and comments civil.

Maybe it handles as well as an average BMW, but an M3? I would have to drive both of them and make my own judgment on that one.
Didn't they used to call these cars the Mercury Mistake?

I just bought mine last month, the LS is so sick; with the 2.5 V6 24v, it's extremely fast. I on put custom lights and fake side intake, and now every time my friends see it, they think it's a Buick.

The idea of a Mercury Mystique outhandling a BMW essentially voids the validity of this entire review. I am not a fan of BMWs, however I an automobile enthusiast who recognizes that different cars suit different people's taste, budgets, and interests. By the same token, if you are going to contribute to the open forum of knowledge and experience on this survey board, please maintain a sense a truth and reality.
Indeed I would be hard pressed to believe you have ever even driven a BMW M3 - any year model.
