Faults:

A/C Clutch seized.

Voltage Regulator went bad.

Brake light switch went bad.

Grille bar lights burned out.

Radio volume is intermittent high/low.

Wiper delay switch needed replaced.

Headlight burned out.

Plugs/wires were bad.

General Comments:

This has been an all-around great car for me. I commute 60 miles a day and she fires right up and purrs like a kitten.

Aside from the A/C clutch going south, I've had no major problems with the vehicle. I've yet to replace the A/C compressor, as it's a very expensive procedure due to the retrofit for the new coolant.

The other things that have gone wrong have been very minor and I've been able to perform the repairs myself. The preventive maintenance is inexpensive and easy to do on your own and parts can be had for a very resonable price.

Overall, the Sable has been a great car for the money I spent and continues to churn out the miles for me on a regular basis.

Faults:

The radiator hose broke after a week of ownership.

General Comments:

I only drove this car about a month, once from West Virginia to New Jersey and back. It LOVES the mountains. A week after returning from NJ I hit a deer with it. I needed a new hood, radiator and some lights. That's it!

I think this car is the safest I've owned. I'm getting it fixed as we speak to drive it again.

Faults:

Don't even get me started. Brakes were completely shot when we first bought the car (the front brakes had a crack in the passenger side caliper, and the rear brakes were powder.

Ongoing electrical problems, fuel pump failure, Powertrain Control Module failure (old computer had the year 1998 on it when the car's a 1990), blown fusible links.

Cap & Rotor has carbon all over it, the ignition coil had half the tower remaining.

Burns oil due to leaking valve oil seals (at only 100,000 miles?!)

General Comments:

It's a comfortable car with leather seats and a freezing A/C (thank God), and it brakes well (bare-bones Cobra brakes), as well as it accelerates. I just wish the car was more reliable. The electrical problems have been a nightmare, my '82 GT never had electrical problems. The fenders are weak too.

Faults:

Largest problem with these cars is rust.

General Comments:

Car is very smooth on the highway, relatively easy on gas and extremely reliable.

Faults:

Air conditioning.

CV boots.

Many other things.

General Comments:

The car is comfortable, both in seating, and ride. The air conditioning went a few summers in a row, which cost $2000 to fix everytime, and it was fixed by the Ford dealer. Lately has been mysteriously leaking antifreeze. You fill it up, and a couple days later its all gone, with not marks on the driveway. Transmission has gaps sometimes, when you put it in reverse, if you give it a fair amount of gas, even if letting it get into reverse fully, the transmission makes a clunk. All around decent car, but has cost more in repairs in 13 years then it did to purchase the car brand new.
