1998 Mercury Sable LS 3.0 Duratech 24v DOHC

Summary:

It's a Mercury, not a Ford

Faults:

The only problems I have with this car are; the power antenna is a little bent, it could use more soundproofing, and there is a back-light in the radio out.

General Comments:

This car is fantastic. I have had several of my friends say I have the nicest car they have ever been in. The way the interior is designed is incredible. I can sit back and all the controls are still within reach. Not having to constantly adjust the A/C is great too, with the automatic climate controls. The key-less and remote entry are great, I can lock my keys in the trunk and not worry. The ride is nice and firm and the engine is very responsive. I have to admit, I smile a great big smile whenever I toast a modified four-banger off the line.

1998 Mercury Sable GS 3.0 V6

Summary:

A mid level bargain

Faults:

Electrical Problems with the Headlights.

Problems with door ajar light.

Service Engine light always on.

Radiator Fluid Reservoir Tank Leaked.

General Comments:

The Car has anemic acceleration initially, but catches up on higher speeds.

The electrical problems are a nightmare including, but not limited to door ajar light being on and the headlights sporadically shutting off.

The reservoir tank for the radiator fluid also cracked, but only set me back 70.00 (you can install it yourself).

The dealership is ultra-expensive and misdiagnosis is not uncommon.

But I have put an inordinate amount of miles on this care with regular oil changes (not synthetic) and have had no problems the the rest of the car.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know

My Sable served my family well until I started experiencing many electrical problems. The mechanic has been unable to diagnose the problem.

I own a 98 Sable Wagon and the door ajar light problem can be solved by spraying WD-40 into the keyholes along with the latch mechanism on the side of the door with the door open. Easy fix, not sure how it works, but I found it on the internet. Works like a charm.
