2002 Mercury Villager Estate 3.3L V6

Summary:

Decent mid size van

Faults:

Fold down flat screen for on-board video system failed twice; VHS player also failed at around 90K miles - fortunately had the extended warranty.

The steering wheel audio controls also failed at around 50K miles.

Drivetrain half shafts worn out at around 80-90K miles.

General Comments:

Good overall van if you don't need a lot of interior room and/or luggage space.

Smaller means better handling and easier maneuvering around town.

Very reliable engine, but it isn't as smooth or as quiet as the 3.0L in the first gen Villagers.

Good highway mileage, 24 MPG, but poor real world city mileage; 16 MPG.

Comfortable leather interior, but kind of tight with all seats occupied - we pulled and stored one of the middle Captain's chairs to free up some room.

Similar to the 1999-2002 Nissan Quest, so parts and service were not an issue (interestingly, the Mercury dealers were cheaper).

2002 Mercury Villager Sport 3.3L V6

Faults:

No problems yet.

General Comments:

This Model (Sport) is probably the best Mini-Van on the market during the makes calendar year for the money. It has a Nissan drivetrain (Engine, Transmission) so you're not getting the Ford parts and headaches.

It handles like a sportscar and doesn't drain the gas tank.

I highly recommend this vehicle to any prospective buyer. You won't be disappointed.
