1974 MG B Tourer 1.8 4 cylinder

Summary:

Great fun... timeless

Faults:

Rust - it was well hidden by the previous owner, but is now coming through loud and clear - and it seems nothing slows it other than metal replacement.

General Comments:

These are great little cars - very solid and simple to maintain. Parts are readily available.

Many mechanics shy away from working on Brit bits, but once they realize the simplicity of the car, they actually seem to enjoy it - no computers!

I have not had the Lucas electrical issues others may have had. She fires up with a flick of the key.

Classic exhaust notes. Classic lines. Buy a good solid one. It's easier to sort out the mechanical and interior issues than it is to make a body right. Rust free is the priority. Enjoy!

1972 MG B

Summary:

A great toy.. all fun always

Faults:

It seems like nothing has gone wrong with it, but I suppose 34 years can dull ones memory. I know I've replaced both master cylinders, had starter and alternator rebuilt, stripped out the smog crap, replaced some exhaust pieces and had electronic points installed. Otherwise just changing oil annually, and occasional tune-ups (every four or five years).

General Comments:

We love it. The car has NEVER failed to start. It could use fresh paint and the interior is a little tatty, but it's totally rust free and the wire wheels are tight and true. The original top is still very serviceable and looks fine. None of the dreaded Lucas electrical problems have ever occurred. Even in its DULL condition, it gets lots of attention whenever we take it out. I never have used this car as primary transportation which most certainly has influenced my opinion of the car. On the rare occasion that something wore out, I'd just put it away until I had some free time. Parts availability is never a problem and prices are reasonable. There were several Sports Car manufacturers in '72, I feel I was very fortunate to have gone British. A true Sports car through and through.

1966 MG B MK1 1.8 CC

Summary:

Dead reliable and FUN!

Faults:

This car had been seriously abused and neglected by others before I found it in an lot behind a Ford garage. It took a couple of years to refurbish it (while driving it) and it prooved the most reliable car my dad, I, or my wife has ever had! It had to be treated with respect and maintained routinely. But it is very simple and parts were and are reasonable. There are so many enthusiasts, help is only a call or click away. Get to know it and learn to think as the British who built it did and it's a real gem.

General Comments:

Anyone who loves animals, or other humans, or who knows one who does has seen what it takes to get along with most European cars. They are almost living things and respond to those who love and understand them. My 1971 Ford pick up (special ordered new) could have cared less. It's just a machine and the best vehicle (period) I've ever seen up close. Ford had to build em to rust, or they'd run forever. Mine is still going strong.

The MG went virtually anywhere there was a road and in all but the most extreme weather.

1972 MG B I-4

Faults:

The floor board rusted after I drove the car for 10 years, year around. when I put the car back together after I rebuilt it the windows did not roll down after I put the speakers in.

General Comments:

This car handles great and is a fun car to drive. I love taking rides in it with my 14 year old son and will one day let him take me for the rides.

The winow problem (not rolling down) is due to the bottom of the windo frame hitting the speaker magnet most likely.
