1993 Mitsubishi Diamante LS 3.0DOHC

Summary:

A keeper! fun and comfortable

Faults:

I replaced the timing belt, idler and water pump the day I purchased it. Better safe than sorry, cost about $700.

The Motor mounts seem to be going, but not too bad yet.

The brakes only have about 10,000 miles on them and they make a terrible grinding noise once in awhile.

A CD stuck in the changer. Easy fix and when I removed to do the repairs I noticed that the factory had not changed the shock springs to the vertical setting. If your CDs skip frequently, pull your changer out and check the setting on the sides.

The automatic door locks do not automatically unlock all the time when the car is put in park.

General Comments:

Great luxury and comfort for the price.

I have read a few comments about burning oil, but I have not had this occur and my car is approaching 120,000.

Aside from the slightly worn leather on the front seats you would never know this car was 10 years old and had a 120,000 mile on it.

1993 Mitsubishi Diamante ES 3.0

Faults:

My vehicle has smoked since day one. I add a quart of no-smoke every other week. The car does not pass emmision standards due to smoke. Car does pass emmisions standards in relation to test results other than visible smoke. Car has run great and is very comfortable. Car rides great.

1993 Mitsubishi Diamante LS

Summary:

Really a great car for the price

Faults:

Transmission failed at 120k, but the nice safety mode kept me going to get it to the shop without a tow truck.

Started burning oil at 106k, and leave a trail of smoke from every stop. I think this is a flaw in the design.

Small accessories have tended not to hold up. These include the cup holder, and back ash trays.

Electrical short causes the alarm to go off when ever you open the truck without the doors being unlocked. This started at about 150k.

Idle is not steady, but that only started at 186k.

General Comments:

If you have the correct tires on the vehicle, then you cannot beat the performance. Even at 189k miles, it runs beautifully.

Power steering is one of the best I have had on any car. I often have to ask if other vehicles have power steering because I am so used to the Diamante.

Great large size car that handles like a sports car.

1993 Mitsubishi Diamante ES 3.0 DOHC V6

Summary:

An affordable luxury money pit

Faults:

My timing belt went out at 57000 miles.

The transmission needed to be replaced at 77000 miles.

Seals have been wearing out continuously since 60000 miles, regardless of frequency of oil and oil filter changes.

Engine has developed numerous oil leaks.

Brake pads need to be replaced too frequently.

I have replaced the brake rotors twice since buying the car.

General power and acceleration have diminished considerably since 70000 miles.

General Comments:

When I bought this car in 1997, everything seemed to be in perfect working order. It did not take long for everything to start going wrong with it.

All of the problems have accumulated to the point where I have spent as much money repairing the car as I spent on it in the first place.

I have grown to love this car, despite it's faults, but I would hesitate before buying another Mitsubishi.

I must say however, that I have never had any problems starting my Diamante up, even in bitterly cold temperatures.

1993 Mitsubishi Diamante LX 3.0L DOHC

Summary:

A Outstanding performance sedan

Faults:

ETACS Computer failed at 80,000 Miles

Air Conditioning Failed at 110,000.

General Comments:

It has been an excellent vehicle with very high reliability, handling is very good and with 141K miles it will still cruise in the low 120mph range topping out close to 140.

This car still looks and drives like new.

The build quality is outstanding. No rattles, squeaks or loose trim.

Repair costs have been substantially above normal on the pieces that have failed and on maintenance.

I have absolutely no complaints, the car, while being expensive (37K) when purchased new, the longevity and quality have made this car well worth the investment 10 years later.
