1999 Mitsubishi Montero Sport LS 3.0
Summary:
It's a well-made car that I would recommend to others
Faults:
I have been very satisfied with my Montero Sport LS.
It has been very reliable, and has needed very little maintenance.
I had the belts (including the timing belt) changed at 90,000 miles for under $400; no other expense, other than routine transmission service and oil changes.
General Comments:
This car requires good truck-style tires. Standard car tires produce vibrations and a rough ride.
I had to return it for tire balancing at least 6 times before the company finally replaced the tires with light-truck tires. Since then it has been pretty smooth.
The LS is not 4-wheel drive; as such, the rear-wheel drive makes it difficult to accelerate on wet or icy pavement without spinning or fishtailing. Be sure to drive carefully, and to take corners slowly under those conditions.
Also, anti-lock brakes are not standard, and I was in a minor accident on wet pavement as a result.
I plan to keep it for at least a couple more years.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes
