2004 Mitsubishi Montero Sport XLS
Summary:
Most reliable SUV, best for snow time
Faults:
Rust on the side steps.
General Comments:
Very impressed with the overall build of this SUV. The body is still rust free and shines like new.
There's rust on the side steps, which are really an add on to the body. I got these removed, and since rest of the body shines like new, I found this as a perfect solution. Seems like the size of the side steps is smaller than models of earlier years, so I was not able to find another one; however it's not an issue for me.
Despite such high mileage, all I had to do to date is change the oil (I use full synthetic Mobil-1 only) and fill with regular gas. No other issue (not a single minor issue to date). It is running perfect.
Oh yes, I had to get new tires too (800$ at Sams Club) since the older ones were losing grip on snow. In Minnesota we get tons of snow in winter, and this 4x4 goes royally over the snow like a piece of cake, where all other vehicles stop. Feels very safe while driving it.
I am very impressed with the quality that has gone into this SUV, and I'm a bit disappointed that Mitsubishi stopped building these after 2004.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

These are very good SUVs. I have a 1998 Mitsubishi Montero Sport that I have had since new; it will be 15 years at the end of this month. 159,000 miles and still going strong and runs like new. I've been very happy with it, and will keep it as long as I can.
