I just bought a 1887 Nissan 200sx ex coupe for 1,000 dollars. the reason I bought it was I needed a car (any car) at that time and I saw it at a little mom and pop car lot.

The body is in great shape the interior is in good condition, I think a good steam cleaning would make the interior look really good. the car is all original and and runs pretty good, I have only needed to replace the alternator, but I think the timing belt needs to be replaced now, I am looking for a dash to replace the old one, but I can't seem to find one anywhere, i would really like to restore the car since it is in really great shape other than the dash, could someone give me an idea on where I could find one.

1987 Nissan 200SX XE 1.6L L4 OHC

Summary:

A flaming disaster mechanically and a highly unsafe car.

Faults:

Poor factory finish in general. Thin paint.

Noisy, drafty and rough-riding.

High glare in uncoated front windshield glass.

Warped rear windshield glass around defroster wires.

Sagging front seats poorly made and very uncomfortable.

Upper inside door panels poorly fitted and pulling out of the frame.

Way too much play in the unsafe seat belts.

Extremely noisy speedometer. Speedo assembly cracked and replaced for $646.00 (major mistake on my part).

Oil leak.

Exhaust leak. Extremely heavy, colorless exhaust. Highly noxious and toxic.

Timing belt failure.

Distributor failure.

Worn CV joints. Hard shimmy on braking.

Cruise control failure.

Sun roof motor failure.

Slow windshield wipers.

Weak rubber window seals with rattling rear window.

Weak rubber seals around front window and trunk. Trunks leaks in the rain.

Trunk release failure.

Gas tank release failure.

Cigarette lighter failure.

Removable radio/tape deck failure. Pioneer brand.

General Comments:

Bought from a friend as a local transportation car because it hadn't given her any trouble and was decent-looking. Cost: $1,300.00. Owned for 3.5 months and will be towed to salvage soon. Won't even start. Good body style, but mechanics at a major Nissan dealership said it's not worth the high cost of required repairs, which can't be guaranteed.

It handled adequately when first purchased, but performance declined steadily.

Easy on gas and oil, but an extremely expensive speedo repair wiped out that advantage.

Probably a hot little car when new, but based on personal experience, I emphatically do not recommend buying a 1987 Nissan 200 SX XE for any reason.

Ehm...1,6 Silvia? I think you had a Nissan Sunny...

I don't think you owned a 200sx, it was probably a Sunny or Pulsar... because both of those cars carry the 1.6 liter engine. The Silvia/200sx does not, it has the 2.0 liter, and 3.0 liter V-6 engines.

1987 Nissan 200SX 1.8L turbo

Summary:

Great all around car... performance, economy, everything

Faults:

When I first bought this car, the previous owner had absolutely destroyed the car. I cleaned it up and begin the process of restoration.

The turbo-charger was the first thing to be replaced. This due to improper care of the unit.

The engine seized at 220000 K.

The Ca1.8ET is tough to find after market parts for and there are none of these engines at any junk yards. Most parts have had to come directly from Japan. Trust me I know, I work at a car parts store.

General Comments:

I have driven many import sports cars.

None have come close to the overall performance of this car and its era.

All modifications have been done by myself. The engine, since being rebuilt has put on another 10000 K and is completely going strong.

I have raced every 200SX in my area and have never been beat.

The CA1.8ET puts out more horsepower than any of the other slug 2.0L engine produced. Go figure.

The engine is one of the sweetest looking engines ever. If you haven't seen the 1.8... I suggest you do. All parts locations are perfect. Looks a lot better than the 2.0.
