1989 Nissan 240SX

Summary:

A life-saving performance miracle

Faults:

The timing chain went due to cheesy American parts (replaced with a good double roller). Normally it would've been pricey, but my friend gave me a good deal on it.

The brake pads needed changing.

Belt wheel cracked possibly during a wreck with a ford, leaked oil (I use synthetic) and not found until the timing chain was replaced. luckily that was no problem because my friend had a spare.

General Comments:

A friend of mine who deals extensively in Nissan totally rebuilt the engine of an 89 240sx. When the potential buyer decided not to buy the car my dad seized the opportunity to purchase this amazing vehicle. Later on that year he went head on with a ford who failed to stop at a stop sign at 45 mph. The front end was wrecked to the firewall and the driver of the ford was pinned between the seat and the steering wheel (the jaws of life were used). My dad jumps out of his car (doors working perfectly) and called 911. My dad was treated for a bruise across the chest while the ford driver had bills a mile long. His insurance paid for everything, including; buying the new car and paying to have the engine rebuilt, using most of the parts on the wrecked car. Since then I bought it from my dad and have been loving it ever since.

My friend loves this car and treats it like it was his own.

You use "ford" as if you're trying to say something about the company. How about your dad hit a small car or suv or something. Not just a... ford...

1989 Nissan 240SX SE Fastback 2.4L SOHC 12V

Summary:

Nissan made a very affordable and upgradeable sports car when they made the 240sx

Faults:

So far my main problem was a bad clutch. It was worn out, so I put a new OEM clutch kit in. Unfortunately, the new clutch kit was faulty, and the clutch plate snapped, and bent around. It then ripped apart the bell housing on the transmission. So I needed to replace the flywheel, clutch kit, and transmission in my driveway. The clutch on this car is very sloppy, that is definitely one thing I don't like.

My rear hatch also has a problem. It came with the factory foam spoiler that collected water and caused the hatch to rust underneath the spoiler. This caused the water to get in the trunk area and has shorted out my reverse lights. I am still trying to figure out how to fix that problem.

The rear end is also very light, in rain or snow, it is very difficult to get traction. I have even put sand bags in the rear to add more weight, and it doesn't help.

I don't like how the automatic seat belts work. They are very slow and can get stuck very easily.

General Comments:

This car is a great car.

I originally bought it as a project car. I want to put a JDM SR20DET motor and transmission set up in. I want a turbo charged car with that has great potential. Plus I do not like the fact that this car has a 115mph speed limiter NA motor.

I have driven this car very hard, and it has taken it quite well. I have taken a 90 degree turn that is suppose to be taken at 35mph at 90mph, and the car stayed in the same lane with no problems. Handling on it is very great. I love the tight turn ratios that it has.

1989 Nissan 240SX 2.4 liter

Summary:

Takes a licking and keeps on ticking

Faults:

The welding on the clutch petal broke. It only took a few minutes to fix.

After two years of very harsh treatment by me, the clutch cable also broke.

The cigarette lighter only works some of the time.

General Comments:

This car has good handling and is pretty fast. The driver must be extremely careful in the rain as it tends to fishtail.

Since the cabin is camel colored and black it can get very hot in the summer without air conditioning... even with the windows down it doesn't seem to help.

The front seats are uncomfortable on long drives and the back seats on the fastback can seem very cramped if you are a bigger person.

This car is incredibly reliable, I have never had any major engine problems even though the engine has higher miles.

This car is a great deal, and doesn't waste gas like so many other sportier cars.

The trunk is surprisingly large, with the back seat folded down I have transported a couch without any problems.
