2000 Nissan Altima GXE
Summary:
Wonderful first time car, how could you go wrong?
Faults:
This car has been a fantastic first car.
When I bought this thing in 2004, it only had 10000 miles on it and looked brand new. Right away I noticed on the side it had been hit. I told the used car dealer to fix the place it had been hit and I would purchase the car at their asking price of $10,000.
Haven't had any problems with it until recently. I had to replace the battery, but that was the original battery that lasted 120,000 miles and 10 years!
I had to replace the turn signal light, but only on the easy side. If you've seen the engine, you know the side you don't want it to blow on because the battery is there.
I have had the oil done every 3000 miles, and the car has run very nice.
I have had to do the rear brakes twice in 2 years lately. Not sure what the issue there is.
The dashboard always shuts off when it rains and when it is hot out (never does it in the winter).
I was recently told my power steering is leaking, but at this mileage you would think something like that would be the case (only a $500 dollar fix anyway).
General Comments:
The car was very useful and it has never stranded me. The great backseat in the car is wonderful for having company. The fixes are predictable, and overall make this car a steal for the reliability, and the fact that I could drive this car for another 5 years, and it is paid for and gets good gas mileage.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

I thought the foreign cars were supposed to be more reliable.. sheesh. That's just another widespread misconception. They cost much more to repair and aren't necessarily built any better then a domestic. My 2000 Chevy Lumina which probably cost a fraction of the purchase price of your Nissan has been rock-solid for all the 80,000 miles I've put on it (had 23k already when I purchased it). Except for the intake gasket which I also had to repair once, its been a somewhat boring but reliable ride. And its a 10-year old Chevy.. just food for thought...
