2002 Nissan Altima S 2.5

Summary:

Wow... can't believe I bought this car!

Faults:

My issues are the same as others. My Altima recently (past 6 months) started burning oil and there were no obvious leaks. My check engine light came on and I have a Catalytic error code. I am not sure if there is a cracked head or bad head gasket, but either way the comments posted are giving me a bad feeling. I also still owe money on this car and I fear I may have to simply nurse it until it's paid off... very disappointing to see the Nissan attitude toward most of the posters.

2002 Nissan Altima SE

Summary:

At this point very concerned!!!

Faults:

Check engine light, severe oil consumption problems.

General Comments:

I bought the car used from a car wholesaler just 6 months ago when it had 94k and now has 110k.I also paid $1500.00 for an extended warranty. From my first oil change around 98K, I began to hear a noise coming from the motor. On the next oil change I told the dealer about it and when they check I had more than 2 litres missing. They suggested a oil consumption monitoring, at every 1500km. Every time I went in for a oil check there was 1 litre or more to add. By the end of the 5000k (yesterday) there was a total 3.5 litres that had to be added. Today, the Nissan dealership called the warranty company to address the problem but they said they wanted to speak to me. There initial reaction was that it "may be normal use"--I don't think so!! There is nothing normal about this situation. So, they asked me to go to their garage for an inspection this Friday morning.I will see what they say... My Nissan dealer is recommending an engine change. I have the 3.5 SE model, which is the V6. I will keep you posted with whta happens. Not a happy camper, given that I just got the car and have major payments to make towards it!

You are not the only one. I have a 2002 Altima 2.5 S. I was just told yesterday that I need a new Catalytic Converter and new re-manufactured engine for my oil consumption problems.

I asked the dealership regarding the earlier recall for the pre-catalyst. If you look on the recall notice on Nissan's website it said that a damaged pre-catalyst could cause increased oil consumption.

I asked if maybe I already had damage before the recall was done. Of course, they denied it.

2002 Nissan Altima 2.5 4clynder

Summary:

Financially consuming and completely unreliable!

Faults:

Squeaky seats, loud engine, constant heater problems (blend door replacement, cable wire, catalytic converter, hose leaking coolant), speaker blew, weird noise when turning left, acceleration problems, all kinds of gasket repairs and gauges (I can't even keep up with all the different ones) faulty headlight wires, more recalls, the list just keeps going, I can't keep up!

General Comments:

Well my driver seat squeaks when ever I go over bumps. My sound system sounds bad because the speaker blew. Everyone ask me, "what is that noise" whenever I accelerate to over 60mph. It sounds like the engine is curling. I live in Chicago with cold weather, so I have to have a blanket in my car to keep warm because I have been having heater problems for at least three years now. Every time the heater breaks it is always something new and very expensive. My car has to go to the shop at least once a year for a major repair. I just can't catch a break. Everyone tells me it looks nice, and it does! I was so excited when I got it. Now, it just makes me cry! I am in financial distress because of all the problems. My car just got fixed again in late December 06 for some emissions gauge, and it decided not to accelerate for me today in the middle of a turn, in front of a pace bus. Thank god the bus was able to stop. The engine still ran, and I was able to coast in to a parking lot. But, I really dread taking it to the shop because I just can't afford this anymore!!
