2000 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab 4X4 XE VG33E
Summary:
Impressive, but some engine repairs require ambidexterity
Faults:
Nothing has gone wrong.
General Comments:
When I first received the truck, it had been sitting for a number of years. I have replaced the water pump, timing belt and related components, all hoses, belts, tires, battery, flushed engine cooling system, replaced all fluids (engine, 2 diffs, trans case, transmission), plugs, A/C system and the list goes on.
I did not care for Japanese motors too much until I had purchased this vehicle. I am impressed. This is a nice balance of comfort and durability. This truck is loaded. All options, but with a 5 speed manual. You can get to the rough terrain in comfort and tear up the wilderness with the 4X4 and drive back in comfort.
Cheap and available parts, OK gas mileage and longevity makes this vehicle a winner. At times, it may feel under powered, but the VG33E (V6, 3.3 ltr) keeps running strong; remember it has to compromise between being geared for the street and the terrain. If you need to do the 1/4 mile in under 10 seconds, look for another truck.
A testament to the engine design - the VG33E is being manufactured in China as of 2018.
Maintain your vehicles and you'll get years of use out of them.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

My 2000 Nissan Frontier XE pickup has been an amazing vehicle. I've put over 166,000 miles on it (plus the 10,700 that were on it when I bought it in 2002) and she still purrs like a kitten. I've changed the clutch and replaced the battery and the water pump and a few things like that over the years, but I couldn't be happier with it - especially considering how bumpy and poorly maintained the roads are where I live. I wouldn't trade that truck for a brand new one.
