Alternator.

General Comments:

This has been the most dependable truck ever. It never tears up. No leaks, no burns, runs and drives likes it's new.

The four cylinder is the way to go. Also had a 4x4 - that was a 3.3 and it was junk. This one is amazing.

The best compact truck you can get. If you have the chance to get one, do it, just not a V6.

Faults:

Catalytic converter up by headers replaced at 85000.

New brakes, tires, shocks, alignment, full tuneup at 86,000.

Belts/pulleys at 102,000.

Driver door window seal is coming off.

Completely repainted in the original silver color at 89,000.

General Comments:

Hands down reliable. I've owned 3 Nissan pickups, and one 1970 model Datsun. Nissan 4 cylinders are bullet proof. Gas mileage is great considering it's a truck. Average 21 city, 27 highway.

Great for light day and every day driving. Towing is fine on level roads and anything under 2,000 pounds. I drove through the West VA mountains, towing a 1800 pound boat/trailer, and struggled to maintain 60 in 3rd gear, 4000RPM, but it did it.

Fun to drive, I've only owned manual transmissions in these trucks, so I can't comment on Automatics. I believe you can get more out of the power train with a manual.

I put in nothing but the best oil, Mobile One 5W30 FullSyn every 6000 miles.

I would purchase one again.

Faults:

Nothing, the vehicle has been great since Day 1..

I wish I could put 87 octane in the tank, but since it's supercharged, I need to put in 91 octane..

I have done my regular maintenance as required from the dealer, and have had no headaches.

General Comments:

Love this truck; made very well, and has plenty of power due to the factory supercharger.

I had the supercharger taken apart, and the oil replaced within it at my 100,000 mile service.

This vehicle has been reliable and hasn't given me any problems. Nissan makes a very well built truck, and I would purchase another one.

The interior and the quality of these trucks has always impressed me more than Toyotas, which I feel are overpriced, and well overrated.

Faults:

Some fault codes with "check engine light" on. P1441/P0440 - evaporative emission system fault, which I am still troubleshooting. Also getting some heat out of the vents with full cold selected.

General Comments:

My truck is very reliable and starts immediately in any weather.

Traction is not great with 2 wheel drive in snow, but is improved with extra weight added in the box. I use a water filled bag called "Traction Plus".

Ride is firm, but the seats are comfortable for all day driving.

Handling is good for a truck, with need for caution in rain. Better tires would help. Mine are Bridgestone all season.

Tows a 1,700 lb. tent trailer well. Also 2 48lb kayaks on the roof rack. Not a hot rod, but quite acceptable acceleration.

Faults:

No serious problems so far.

Had to change both rear leaf springs though.

Two of the leafs on the driver side spring cracked, decided to replace both sides as a result.

Lower ball joints had to be replaced at around 150,000 miles.

General Comments:

A very reliable pickup truck for the most part.

The truck could use more power.

A bit thirsty when compared to a Tacoma.

Some interior rattles with the plastic that can get annoying after a while.

Would consider a newer model Frontier only because this one has been very good to me.

Faults:

Seats wore very fast and have seam splits. They are the durable looking cloth type, but they aren't durable at all, and they are very uncomfortable, but that's always been an issue with Nissan P/U's.

Cheapo center console lid broke.

Cheapo A/C system has been troublesome since the truck was just a few years old. The lines used seem a lot flimsier than your average A/C lines, and burst in the Arizona heat, and it is a killer in a 120 degree summer. I am a mechanic and have seen all models of the Nissan lineup with early A/C issues.

General Comments:

I'm not a big fan of the newer Nissans.. the last one I had was an 84, and it had 300k on the original motor and was beat down from day one and still running.

I say the 3.3 non-supercharged V6 is a very good motor if you maintain it. One thing I do not like about the motor is it is belt driven, which means more work to do on the truck, but it's not that big of a deal, I just prefer a chain over a belt. The other thing is the gas mileage... gets around the same as a full sized 1/2 ton V8 truck.

Transmission has been flushed twice in its life, and has never given me any issues.

A/C system is the most troublesome part of the truck.

Interior quality is so-so, but it's a truck so it's acceptable. It just would be nice if the seats weren't wearing so badly; they started showing major wear at around 100k miles.

Body and frame are very solid on the Frontier, and for being a 2wd, this truck does great off-road due the the Desert Runner package. This is a great truck to take camping, or take to the desert or dunes with the dirtbikes in the bed.

It's a very reinforced. I've been rear-ended twice this year; once by a Kia Rio, and the Rio was badly damaged, and my rear bumper was slightly bent but barely noticeable (never fixed it), and then I was involved in another accident on the freeway, and was hit by a full-size truck and the bumper now looks like trash. They hit the quarter panel a bit, but with a new bumper you wouldn't notice.

As far as the quality of the metal and body of the truck, Nissan still has it! They don't call them hardbodies for nothing LOL. Both times I didn't pursue insurance or police due to the low amount of damage. I feel very safe driving it.

Gas mileage SUCKS. I average 17 mpg.

This will probably be my final Nissan however, they seem to be losing their touch each year. I like my German cars, but make considerations for trucks, and my next truck will probably be a Ford Ranger, Chevrolet Colorado or Toyota Tacoma.

But I have seen a few Frontier trucks, both 2.4 and 3.3, with 250-300k and still running in my career.

There's just something rubbing me the wrong way with this truck. I think it's mainly the gas mileage and the A/C.
