1991 Nissan Hardbody Pickup 4X4 2.4L KA24E

Summary:

Tough truck that tends to rust

Faults:

The first few years and many miles were fairly carefree except regular maintenance.

At 70K I replaced the first clutch.

Then most of the front end parts wore out. Lots of tire replacements, even though I have had the front end aligned many times.

The body, especially the long bed, has rusted out a lot. I have repaired the long bed many times over the years with fiberglass patches, but the rust has consumed the long bed and the rear fenders. I also have rusting along the top ridge of the windshield, and now the windshield leaks every time it rains.

General Comments:

Overall this has been a well used and tough truck for the money.

I have had this truck for close to 16 years, and it has paid for itself many times.

The rust and need to keep the front end aligned are the most noteworthy complaints.

Get the 4 cylinder engine and not the V-6.

What's wrong with the V6? Or is that just a personal preference?

1991 Nissan Hardbody Pickup 2.4L (KA24E)

Summary:

The best money I have spent on a truck

Faults:

Replaced shocks @ 228000. (This is a retired work truck.)

I recently had a problem with bad fuel economy and a loss of power. Colse inspection revealed a vacuum hose was broken. I replaced the vacuum hose @ 239900 and it runs great!

I have some rust on the rear bumper. I will be looking for a replacement soon.

I replaced the factory radio with an aftermarket one in June of this year. The factory radio display went bad and it quit receiving AM signals.

General Comments:

This is an extremely reliable truck. I bought it for $500 in March of 2006 from my employer. They bought it brand new in 1991 and kept ALL the service records on it. It has been well maintained and well worth every penny I paid for it.

The interior is in OK shape. I'd like to find a vinyl bench seat to replace the old cloth one.

1991 Nissan Hardbody Pickup D-21 Base 4x4 2.4 Liter

Tis all the vehicle I need in this life... does it all.

Faults:

Starter replaced around 280,000 miles.

Alternator upgraded around 120,000.

Fuel pump replaced at 350,000 miles.

Timing chain replaced at 100,000 miles.

General Comments:

It's a wonderfully enjoyable tight compact pickup to modify (hobby) ;...I've done far too much to take the time and list all the improvements on this sight.. (maybe a few).

Completely renovating its' interior:

From added electronics, inclinometer, CB, custom built overhead and center consoles (with ice cooler), Nissan 'Z' car seats, Pathfinder 4 spoked steering wheel w/tilt, digital gages, DVD& VCR players, 7" tuner/monitor, Pioneer sound, AC/DC outlets, custom interior (Blue, maroon, red, white and grey), tint/window vents, and enough sound deadening to rival a Caddy... just to name a very few.

There is one aspect of the name 'Hard-body' which truly defines my pickup... after accomplishing all the necessary mechanical & electrical mods, I cleaned ALL the hidden areas I could and then applied an adhesive glue to them. Reason?...I then filled these cavities with Great Stuff (expanding foam) which after setting up for several days, turned its' bodywork into a true HARDBODY. It sounds like a solid tire when you tap on it and the truck would probably float if tossed into the water. It's so solid!...and feels it when driven! Polyurethane bushings, upgraded torsion & sway bars, Airlift automatic rear bags, Rancho remote 9000 shocks, 8.5 cast aluminum (high strength) wheels and 30" x 9.50" Michelin LTX tires all work together to make this the most enjoyable and downright FUN TO Drive compact I've ever had. And I've had many... from big to small.

The Vector Inverter allows me to take this out into the woods and utilize skill saws, electric chain saws, etc simultaneously. My latest mod is upgrading all the lighting possible to LED. They honestly get your attention!...use far less amperage, operate cooler, last forever (long after I'm dead anyways), are extremely quick!,...and can be installed just about anywhere. Aftermarket side-view mirrors reduce wind noise and look great! You can even modify these by putting anti-freeze filled bags behind the glass and then Great Stuffing to hold in place (just make sure they are where you want them for proper viewing). They will automatically never freeze over!
