1995 Nissan Hardbody Pickup XE 2.0

Summary:

A disappointment

Faults:

All owners of a Nissan Pickup with rust problems, whether it be the frame rusted out like us, rusted out brake lines as you're going down the road like us, rusted out gas tank that starts spewing gas going down the road like us, etc.

We have contacted Nissan about this rust problem as have many other to no avail. Forget class action suits, we have contacted the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Saftey Administration) and the ODI (Office of Defects Investigation). If enough of us file a safety complaint and this organization can find a pattern, they can force Nissan to issue a recall.

Please contact us a fightnissanrust@live.com for further info. We are keeping track of the number of people willing to fight. So far there are 1 1993 complaint, 10 1994 complaints, 19 1995 complaints and 1 1997 complaint. Not many, but once someone calls Nissan and gets nowhere, they don't know what else to do. This is it. If you contact me, I will explain what we are fighting for since I am limited on what we are allowed to say on the message board, and let's fight for our trucks!!!

General Comments:

Runs great.

Rusting frames problem is not confined to the Nissan pick-up trucks. I have a 1987 Dodge pick-up. And have taken care of it for many years. The last two years the frame, body, brake lines, and anything the salt brine Ohio uses on the roads hit.

Where parts of the truck were shielded, like under the spare tire there was no rust. My friend had a Ford truck. After the winter he parked it for the summer. It had new shocks, brake lines etc. When he went to use for hunting in the fall, the shocks were rusted away and the fuel and brake lines were rusted. This brine hit my 98 Sunfire, but where I smeared the brake lines with grease, there was no rust.

The liquid brine melts ice faster, but eats the cars away.

This may be our problem. Until that time, Ron Myers.

1995 Nissan Hardbody Pickup Base Model 2.4 4 cylinder

Summary:

Best car/truck I have ever owned!

Faults:

Had the transmission rebuilt around 100k. I let the fluid run low and it damaged 5th gear. So I had the clutch replaced while in the shop.

So far I have replaced: radiator, water pump, cooling fan, headlight swtich, idle speed control, plugs/wires (every 20k).

The truck is a tank. It's been wrecked twice. Had a car side swipe the passenger door. I hit the center median, while going 55mph. Had to get a front end alignment and adjust the steering gear.

The white paint is now peeling off. But what should I expect, the truck is now 13 years old.

General Comments:

I have learned that only Nissan parts seem to work. So they can be expensive. But so far, what a tank of a truck. Two wrecks, numerous of road adventures, trips that were 1000 miles or more and it just keeps running. All I do is change the oil every 2500 miles. Highly recommended!

I'm already looking for another. You can buy one in Dallas, tx for 3000--5000 with under 100,000 miles.

I agree, the little truck ever made! I wish they still made the Nissan Pickup! They're cheap to buy and some what cheap to fix. They seem to last forever, just like the Eveready bunny. They just keep going, and going and going.

1995 Nissan Hardbody Pickup 4x4 XE 3.0

Summary:

It's a Nissan truck that looks good. Beware

Faults:

We purchased our Nissan 4x4 truck knowing there was a very small area of rust starting to appear around the drivers side front fender. The truck was for my son, it was to be his 1st vehicle and with the mileage at 55,000 miles, the motor, transmission and transfer case all seemed to be in very good condition, and we paid almost $7000.00.

After we purchased the truck, the rust became more and more noticeable, almost to where the front fender was falling off the car.

Next the front brake calipers rusted so bad the began to lose fluid. I replace both calipers only to find the ABS unit had begun to leak also. Before I was done, I replaced 4 brake lines, 1 ABS unit, 2 front calipers and 2 rotors.

We purchased this truck from a very well known local dealer, and felt safe with the information he had told us about the rust not being a structural issue. Because of all the problems we have been having with the truck, we decided, after owning it one year and driving about 10,000 to trade it in and take the loss. We had no idea what was coming next, when we went to a car lot we were told the truck's frame was so unsafe they couldn't by law resale the car. They told my son and myself we shouldn't be driving it at all. Not believing the frame could be that bad, I took it to 2 more lots, and saying nothing about the frame, both lots were as concerned for our safety as was the 1st one.

Two of the lots I knew the people I was speaking to. I'm a Building Inspector in the Township. We then drove home and parked the truck.

General Comments:

If you own a Nissan pickup, any model, please have it checked out by your mechanic. We all carry very important passengers in our vehicles.

One the main problems is brake lines rusting thru, and with the fluid leaking out you have no brakes.

The other main problems is the framing rusting so badly it rusts all the way thru, and the truck's frame could easily break in half.

*** Toyota had the same problems during the same years, but because they care about the safety of their customers, they are offering these owners 15% above Kelly Blue to buy back their trucks. ***

We should all get together and file a class action law suit to get their attention.

I own a 1994 Nissan Extended Cab XE 4x4, and I have had no major problems with the truck with the exception of the exhaust leak at the head (a manifold bolt is missing?)

I bought the truck in Colorado from a dealer in Boulder, and it's like the energizer bunny, it just keeps going and going.

Minimal rust, brakes work well, I'm keeping it maintained as it passed the smog-check here in socali.

I own a 1993 Nissan King Cab 4x4, and the back of the frame is rotted completely out; almost nothing left but welds.

The brakes are garbage, same problem with the front calipers, they're are very well known for clutch issues (mine has a weak clutch), but other than that LOL, it is one hell of a tough truck. I'm just gonna cut it in half, and weld the back half of an S10 to it.

Hello, I also own a 1993 Nissan Hard Body 4x4, and my frame is flat out junk, it is real bad at the rear section, and broke in half at the rear cab mounts. Would love to find a good frame...

I agree. My truck is great, but rust is a big issue now. Nissan would be awesome if they addressed the rust issue for all of us.

Any truck that's 20 years old is likely to have some rust. I see rusty trucks on the road all the time, and they're fine. Rust isn't as big of a deal as it might seem.
