Summary:

It's rare to find one with a V6. If you find one, buy it

Faults:

Alternator and battery went out together at 109,000 miles. I thought it was pretty good that they lasted that long though.

Brake rotors and pads went at 110,000. Again, they were doing good to go that long.

General Comments:

Great little truck. Engine isn't great off the line, but after that, it really screams. Sounds good with a flow master too.

Gets around 19-21MPG usually.

Not very comfortable on long trips, but I am 6'3" so I shouldn't complain, it is a Nissan. Better than my S10 in every way except gas mileage.

Ride is not great, but better than the S10 was.

Handling at speed is terrible, but easy to drive otherwise. It probably wouldn't be as bad if I'd replace my bad shocks though.

Truck pulls 3000lbs with no problems.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

1995 Nissan Hardbody Pickup d21 2.4L

Summary:

This truck is annoyingly dependable!

Faults:

The clutch had to be replaced at 56,000 miles. I would say this is premature, but I replaced it myself, the procedure took a full day, but it functions just fine now and at 175,000 mile plus.

The shackle bushings wore out at 125,000 miles. Dealer and aftermarket replacement cost was about 50 dollars each, but I found a source that has a kit of all six bushing for 50 dollars! I also installed this myself and the time was about four hours.

The starter is starting to fail, but replacement is about 65 dollars.

One mystery problem is that it stalls often at low revs, typically at stop signs. I was told that there is a carbon buildup on a sensor in the throttle body.

I live in Michigan where salt is used on winter roads, but the vehicle is doing well with only one rust hole on a replacement fender.

General Comments:

For a small truck the Nissan holds up well.

I have several friends with pathfinders and hardbodys that have the same problem with a stall at low revs. This problem can be fixed by regular throttle body cleanings.

I had the same problem, but after I replaced the Throttle Body "heater plate" sensor doohicky (and after the computer, er, "learned" for a few days), the problem went away and it's worked just fine ever since. This was on my 1986.5 D21 Z24i 2WD std.

Three Months ago I traded in my 1995 Regular cab 2.4 Litre 5 speed Hardbody. There were a few Problems with the truck. One.the Headlights had a ground problem. Two. The starter did not work Three. Passenger rocker panel was rusted out the inside of box rusted.Four.the door locks no longer worked.Five. The speedometer did not work. The truck had less than 150000 miles on it I received 500 Dollars on trade in for a 2007 Dodge Caliber I paid 8000 Dollars for the truck in 2000.

I have a 1995 Nissan EX Cab SE V6 4x4 with 468,234 miles and only have had to put another used tranny in it, and a new clutch at the same time. I love this truck, and in the woods or muddin I can run circles around full size trucks.

Hey everyone, I'm a soldier deployed in Iraq. I just bought a 95 hardbody 2x4 2.4 5 speed. My buddy has had one since he was 16. He is 23 now; it's one tough reliable lil truck, so I'm gonna take my shot at one.

1996 Nissan Pickup (D21), 2.4 liter, 157,000 miles.

I gotta say I love this little truck. I drive 110 miles a day, 6 days a week. I drove the last year; no problems, changed oil every 300 miles, alternator went out last week. Other than that, these things are bullet proof, and it seems very reliable.

I would recommend one to anyone looking for low cost transportation.

I put some rims on mine and tricked it out a little. Turns a lot of heads, and I get 29 MPG doing it too. I love it!
