2000 Nissan Maxima GLE

Faults:

Currently have a 2000 Maxima GLE with 90000 miles. Also had the engine coil problem back around 30000 miles. The dealer replaced all 6 coils under warranty since he said they didn't know which specific coil was failing.

The Service Engine light did come on again around 89000 miles. It would stay on for a few days, the turn off, then back on, then off, etc. Also noticed the timing chain would make a lot of noise while driving uphill.

Finally took it into my local mechanic. He replaced the Air Flow sensor and one of the 4 Oxygen sensors. Cost $400 for parts and labor. But that seemed to fix the service engine light problem and rough engine sound/timing chain rattle noise.

HOPEFULLY that is end of car problems for my Maxima.

General Comments:

Besides the coil and sensor problems, this car has been fairly dependable and I have enjoyed owning it.

2000 Nissan Maxima GLE gas

Summary:

An expensive lesson on what not to buy

Faults:

The "Service Engine Soon" light comes on repeatedly in my 2000 Maxima. I have put in a new air filter, fuel injectors, six engine coils, a new battery, and replaced the wiring harness all over a 12 week period. Over three thousand dollars, and immeasurable inconvenience later, I've had enough.

General Comments:

The car was great for almost seven years, fun to drive and extremely comfortable, but this seemingly endless problem has soured me on Nissan. When is Nissan going to take responsibility for this obvious defect and reimburse Maxima owners for these repairs?

I agree it is a money pit. One check engine light after another. Requires coils, filters, better fuel, gas cap replacement etc. etc. Annoying and expensive.

2000 Nissan Maxima GLX not sure

Summary:

Hope to resolve this issue, other than that a good car

Faults:

I've have had this car for 2years, it is a 2000 Maxima with 44,500miles on it currently. For the first time on Christmas eve, the engine light came on and the car began to shudder severely. I have an appointment tomorrow in the a.m. to take to the dealer. Needless, to say with this website being a good resource I have some idea of how what to expect regarding the problem and the costs, although I'm extremely annoyed at the prospect of spending at least 500.00. I have notified the Nissan office of North America to alert them to this problem and to find out, why if this is a prevalent issue with this year and model car, is it still on the market? The Customer Care person asked me, "What do you want Nissan to do?" Duh, I'm thinking, though my response was I'm a consumer, what you should be figuring out is what you can do for me. I'm in the medical field and as such or as anyone who works, I NEED a reliable vehicle. I AM NOT GOING TO SPEND ALMOST A THOUSAND DOLLARS ON A VEHICLE, which may as well be a down payment on another car.

General Comments:

Other than this recent problem with the engine light and shuddering, the car has been everything I've expected. I love my Nissan Maxima, but if the Nissan dealer, company and I cannot come to some resolution other than,I dumping out a good sum of money for repairs, than I'm afraid I will have to try another brand of car. I would hate for my relationship with Nissan to end on a sour note, the best/worst advertising for any company is via word of mouth.

It's obvious to me that Nissan should take responsibility for this defect and pay for repairs. This is a potential safety issue, and a recall should be issued immediately.

I have one, they only made many of the parts for this car for only 1 year, so that's why they are so expensive. Many times you can't even find parts for it; you have to special order them through the dealer.

It's a very sporty car.

Once I got my transmission rebuilt, then everything under that hood started falling apart. Soon 1900 turned into 3200 worth of repairs. And never in my life have I heard of a car with a ENGINE mount with hydraulic fluid inside!!! It's crazy I know, but mine was broken and oozing the fluid out of it. They're not cheap either. 238.00.

I also just replaced the rack and pinion; 580.00 for a rebuilt one.

Like is said, everything under the hood is new basically. I love the car, but I will never buy another NISSAN EVER!!!
