2001 Nissan Maxima GXE

Summary:

I love my Maxima!!!

Faults:

I had to replace the 02 sensors at 125,000 miles.

General Comments:

My first Nissan was a 1999 Altima that I purchased in 2005 with 120,000 miles. I gave my Altima to my cousin with 190,000 last year when I bought my 2000 Maxima.

The only thing I've had to replace was an 02 sensor (total cost $80). With 150,000 miles on it, I figured I would have a lot of problems, but I haven't.

I only use premium gas, and K&N filters (oil & air). When I first purchased the car, I changed all the fluids & had the transmission flushed.

I read some of the reviews, & I am shocked that anyone would pay more than $200 to replace the 02 sensors. The sensors themselves are only $60 from Advance Auto Parts!! I never deal with the dealer, I use a small local shop with the mechanic that worked on my previous vehicle & my parents' vehicles.

The check engine light hasn't come on in my Maxima, but it did come on occasionally in my Altima. I had that car checked, & everyone said it was fine, so I continued to drive it (about 15,000) until I gave it to my cousin & she has yet to have any problems with the car.

I will drive this car until I save enough money to purchase a 2006 Honda Accord.

2001 Nissan Maxima SE 3.2

Summary:

Never owned a better car

Faults:

Since buying the car BRAND NEW:

O2 sensor replaced (first time UNDER warranty).

Driver side fwd/back seat motor just went out (139K miles). All the other positions work.

Sub-woofer goes in and out for some reason.

General Comments:

I purchased this car with 4 miles on it, and have NEVER had a major problem yet. Other than what's mentioned above. I do normal maintenance. Nothing more.

2001 Nissan Maxima SE 20th Anniversary 3.0 DOHC 24 valve

Summary:

Best car I have ever owned/drove

Faults:

I had a O2 sensor out when I bought it.

Shortly after, I had an evap valve break.

General Comments:

This car is by far the best car I have ever driven, and I have driven some very exotic cars (2005 Lotus Elise), and I work at a dealership, so I see drive plenty of cars everyday, and I still love driving my '01 Nissan Maxima SE 20th Anniversary Edition.

The problems that I have had with previous cars have been so much worse than the little $30 and $40 dollar fixes with this car.

Nissan engines are built to last to 400,000 easy, as long as you take care of it, just like anybody should take care of any car.

2001 Nissan Maxima SE 3.5 Liter V6

Summary:

Fast, fun and reliable, but very thirsty and not at all happy in the snow

Faults:

In the time that I owned the car, absolutely nothing went wrong with it.

General Comments:

This was the absolute best car that I ever owned. It was very fast (faster than anything else I've owned.)

I used to love taking it out on the backroads and throwing it into corners at speeds I wouldn't have even dreamed of doing in my old Accord.

Despite poor reviews of other Maxima's on this site, I never had a single issue, and I drove it hard. Back then, and still today, I had 100 mile commute 5 days a week, that's how I put so many miles on it in the 2 years I owned it.

I'll also admit to not taking very good care of it. It was lucky to get even an oil change every 10,000 miles. It never had any other maintenance done to it, and it still ran flawlessly and never once broke down.

I wish that I could have kept it. However, a car this fun comes at a price. It loved its premium fuel, and when I first got it, gas was cheap, so it was no big deal that I was only getting 20 MPG. But when gas prices got so high, it was literally using nearly my entire paycheck to fill it up each month, and with my 100 mile daily commute, I was using a lot of gas.

It was also very bad in the snow. It had so much power, and some much torque, that despite the fact that I had winter tires put on it, it still spun its wheels like you wouldn't believe. It also slid very easily on icy roads.

Had it not been for the rise in gas prices, and the fact that I live in New England, there's no doubt in my mind that I would still own it today.

Come on, you only have 70K miles.

Let's wait until it passes 100K, then you tell me it is a good car.

The fact is because it breaks easily after 100K, your car's current value probably is not high either.
