2004 Nissan Maxima SL 3.5

Summary:

Hated it! Poor customer service! Don't buy!

Faults:

Hard shift and slipping transmission at 34K, 50k and dealership told me nothing wrong. At 62K, it was scary. Took it back to them and they said yep, there's a problem, $3,800 please. Nissan knows they have a problem with the 2004 tranny. I wrote to Consumer Affairs and provided my records of 3 trans fluid changes PLUS my receipts for when I complained about it well under warranty and they said "sorry, can't help". (Actually the person who wrote the letter from C.Affairs, had about 6 typos in her letter and even misspelled her own name.) They've got some idiots working for them or they are training them that way! NEVER buy another Nissan!

General Comments:

The car was by far one of my favorite cars before Nissan didn't back their product. You should get 62K miles out of a car before you have to change a tranny! You couldn't GIVE me another Nissan. And my car was molly coddled.. still looks new too.

2004 Nissan Maxima SE 3.5

Summary:

Stay away; buy Honda

Faults:

93,000 and the transmission is toast! $3,800 to rebuild the trans. Aamco and other well known transmission shops are telling me they replace this transmission ALL the time. Big time issues with this trans. Great car otherwise.

General Comments:

Great car, horrible transmission; will never buy Nissan again.

2004 Nissan Maxima

Summary:

Terrible

Faults:

My transmission is going out, and I have 106K miles on my car. I thought Nissan made good cars.. boy was I wrong. I called Nissan and they would not do anything about it. I have the same problems that everyone else is having (jerking b/w 1st and 2nd gear). What's the use in having a nice looking car, when the parts under the hood are a piece of crap?!!

General Comments:

I reported them to FTC and National Hwy Traffic Safety. We should all do this, and maybe we will get some type of assistance.

2004 Nissan Maxima SE

Faults:

I have a 2004 Nissan Maxima, of course out of warranty, and all hell breaks loose.. in and out of the shop every other month since the warranty expired.

Now I have the same transmission problems as everyone else on this site. Go up hill.. no way it got over 20 hardly.

Auto shift stuck in 5th yes... engine stalling, hard to start. Took it in, well it's still there; they said it's the cam sensor and the crank shaft sensor, two parts under 90 bucks each, and they want 700 dollars to replace them! OK, so I pay it? And what comes in November? I might as well have a car payment since I am paying out chunks every other month for repairs..

Obviously this is an issue with this make of vehicle. What will it take to get Nissan to recognize it and perhaps a recall! By the way, they did say my tranny looks good.

2004 Nissan Maxima SE 3.5

Summary:

What a mistake!!!

Faults:

Transmission shifting "hard" between first and second gear when accelerating, and downshifting hard when braking. My recommendation is for everybody with this complaint to go to this site and make a formal complaint. Until a sufficient number of formal complaints are made, nothing different will happen.

Contact https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/ to report this problem. If enough complaints are received, a recall will be forthcoming.

General Comments:

Beautiful car with too many problems mechanically...

2004 Nissan Maxima SE 3.5

Summary:

This is truly a great car

Faults:

- Replaced front struts at 70,xxx

- I can't figure out a rattle up front.

That's it from 48,000 to 90,000 miles.

General Comments:

It is a late model 04, so I don't experience a lot of the common problems of the cars built in 03.

So far, I have put a lot of highway miles on it, and it is a great cruiser. Engine is still smooth.

I've driven many BMW's, Audi, Lexus, and the Maxima is truly on par with the majority of them when it comes to everyday driving.
