2004 Nissan Maxima SE 3.5

Summary:

A good car that should be repaired by Nissan

Faults:

Trans banging when slowing from ND to first gear.

General Comments:

Up to now, had nothing bad to say about the car. I don't expect trans problems at 70000 miles in this day and age when you don't abuse the car.

2004 Nissan Maxima SE 3.5

Summary:

The Maxima has a great looking shell, but it's manufactured poorly, and can be costly to maintain

Faults:

Transmission failure at 102,000 miles.

Motor mounts had to be replaced twice by the dealer within 10k miles.

Front rotors were replaced after 1 year of ownership.

Radio/display panel went out in less than 2 years.

Sunroof opens mysteriously, and to this day, the dealer still can't explain why.

General Comments:

My wife's 04 Maxima transmission went into what the dealer called "Safe Mode", where it stuck in 3rd gear, and couldn't shift up or down.

I found this site, and was concerned the dealer would jerk me around, like it appears they've done so many of you. So I had a family friend, who owns a transmission shop, run the diagnostic. He was familiar with the Nissan transmission, including its issues, but found the problem to be 1 of 3 "positioning sensors". The diagnostic won't tell you which sensor failed, so you need to replace all 3 to be safe.

Now here's the good news, unless you take it to the dealer, the sensors cost less than $60.00, and I was back on the road for under $300.

2004 Nissan Maxima SE 3.5

Summary:

Pathetic

Faults:

Transmission slips.

General Comments:

My 2004 Maxima slips transmission. Shame on Nissan for not taking responsibility. This is a nice car, but transmission slip sucks from 2nd to 3rd gear.

Also it drives like a log.

I had a 1997 Maxima and never had a problem.

Personally I'm never buying buying a Maxima again. There are more competitive cars out there.

I'm getting a Lexus GS350. Sweet car.

2004 Nissan Maxima SE

Summary:

Selling to the next fool..

Faults:

Well I thought I would join the club. Yes, yes, and yes, the 2004 Maxima is pretty nice car, but the trans issue has come down the line. Apparently 4000.00 takes away the current problem, however selling it will take it away forever.

Be advised, I too have put a complaint to this website (http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/). Take the time to do so; make sure you have your VIN#, you're going to need it.

The car works great in cold weather and when it's cool outside. Don't go into above 90 degree weather, it will break your heart; it stalls, change the nice expensive sensors, oils, however I haven't changed the car. Well I guess that's the next thing so that I may not lose any more money. To anyone interested in this car that looks good parked, e-mail me lt1star1@gmail.com

Have a nice day.

2004 Nissan Maxima XLE

Summary:

This car brings only trouble

Faults:

When I first purchased my 2004 Maxima, I noticed the car (I bought it used with 80,000 miles) was jerking when stopping and accelerating about 1 month later. When it first started, it happened maybe once a month, or sometimes less. Over the course of 2 years, it has gotten much worse and more frequent. It jerks really hard when going from R to D, and when accelerating from 1st to 2nd gear. Now, when stopping at red lights or after slowing down, it struggles to change gears and the engine roars loudly, and the transmission is starting to bang.

I'm really frustrated, because although the car was used, the previous driver researched the problem and was smart enough to trade it in, and I was the unsuspecting buyer to buy it. I have had the transmission flushed twice, and it has had a diagnostic check that revealed nothing. The dealer concluded that since my transmission fluid is still dark after two flushes, it is the transmission. I was told that a used transmission will cost $3800 plus $78 an hour for labor. I didn't read the reviews on the car until mine starting having problems.

I want to know what can we do. If this many customers are having the exact same issue, then it is Nissan's responsibility (which they are ignoring), because I can't afford to fix the car at this moment and continue to make car payments on time each month.
