2005 Nissan Maxima LX 3.5

Summary:

As my children put it, POC

Faults:

My transmission is shot. It began going at 85000. The hard shift and slips in 2nd and 3rd have been gradually getting worse since 85000. The Nissan dealership found nothing. However, as I live 50 miles from the dealership, it began again on the way home. I was told to bring it back again. I was also told to call Nissan and see if they would cover the repairs. I was also told that they were aware of the problem and had had to repair the same issues as I was having with the same model. And, I was lastly told by a Nissan rep that they had no idea of this problem. Somehow, I am having difficulty with that statement.

General Comments:

When it runs, the car is comfortable and suits my lifestyle of single parent of three - and two grandchildren. However, I do not transport my precious cargo in this vehicle as it is unreliable which is really cramping my life. I can't even go visit my new grandson!

Will I ever own another? Not in this lifetime.

2005 Nissan Maxima SL

Faults:

I purchased this vehicle from a reputable car dealership, (Youtube, Buyer's beware, don't fall for a lemon) and requested a car fax, I received one. The Vin # on the vehicle was identical until we have found, the last 8 digits or so. This 2005 Nissan Maxima has had the worst performance.

I'm absolutely flabbergasted. It's very interesting to know others have had the same problems with their transmission. So have I.

I have had to repair the cooling belt.

The engine light continues to come on.

The tires for some reason is not wearing down correctly and I have had to replace them over and over.

It's just been a nightmare.

I'm hopeful that these complaints are lodged with Nissan to prompt them to do something about this poorly made performing vehicle.

2005 Nissan Maxima SE/LX 3.5

Summary:

C-

Faults:

Transmission fluid mount broke = 1800.00+.

Air conditioner = $375.00.

Right front sensor came undone = Free.

The car is currently making a noise when I cut on the air conditioner, like the fan is hitting something. It also is shimmying when I reach 60mph, 65mph, 70mph & 75mph. I haven't noticed it that much at 80mph. I also think this shimmying is responsible for the wear of my tires so quickly.

The transmission down shifts suddenly if I go down a hill doing less than 40mph, then it jerks into the next gear once I reach 40mph.

When I bought her, she had 47500K on her and was fine. She started acting up when it reached 55000K. I currently have 61000K on her.

General Comments:

This car is very fast for its size, and very comfortable. I've wanted one ever since the 1st Generation came out way back when. Even with all her problems, I still love this car. Even though she has a lot of mechanical issues.

I was to a point where I would have to either trade the car or keep it. I decided to keep it because I would not be able to replace it with anything that will come close to its style and status.

I'm hoping that the current issues she is having will hold out until I can get it paid for in 1 1/2 years. I plan to then have her taken apart and fixed properly.

Its only a Maxima, seriously, its not that cool.

They have a generic Nissan engine, pretty much used in every Nissan Altima, and are known to have issues. Why do you think their resale values are dirt cheap?

Most of the 2004-2005 ones that I've seen are long dead now.
