Faults:

My transmission went out at 76,000 miles. I can't believe it!! Luckily I purchased an extended warranty.

The mechanic at the Nissan dealer tried to tell me my warranty may not be honored, because I have 20 inch rims on my car. The mechanic stated to me that large rims cause a strain on the transmission. When I purchased the car, it had 18 inch rims on it. Go figure!!! Surely a 2 inch difference wouldn't cause a strain on a transmission.

This 2005 Maxima has given me nothing but trouble. Last year I had to have the fuel pump replaced. The mechanics at Nissan are not very accommodating when there is a warranty involved on a big job. I say if you don't want to honor your warranty, don't sell them.

I will never buy another Nissan after this experience. They are not very accommodating.

Faults:

I have a 2005 Maxima and I am having the same transmission problems that everyone else is having.

The car has 79,000, and since December has problems shifting from 1st to 2nd gear.

I have taken my car in to two different transmission shops, and both told me I need to replace the transmission. The cost is about $3700.00 How can a transmission last only 5 years!!

I will never by another Nissan, and neither will my friends or family.

General Comments:

It's sad to say, don't buy a Nissan.

Faults:

The timing chain makes a noise, but more importantly the transmission began to jerk very violently, and changing the fluid did not help.

I found some good info about the root problem on the Internet, and had my mechanic fix it.

I ended up spending less than 1,300 bucks on the repair, instead of the 3 or 4 thousand dollars for a whole transmission that other Maxima owners are paying. My transmission works great now, and I finally feel safe in my car once again.

General Comments:

Besides the poorly designed timing chain and faulty transmission, this car is a beast. I can spin my tires in a heartbeat. Lots of power and a good look.

Faults:

I bought a used 2005 Maxima last year and it had 78000 miles. After the first week I ended taking the car back because it was jerking. Long story short, I have filed a complaint to NHTSA, which assists people who have major complaints with their car. Go ahead fellow Maxima owners, you should file too. Let's get someone to listen.

I love this car, but I cannot afford a new car that needs a transmission. Let's be serious, Nissan knows this car has problems.

Faults:

I have a 2005 Maxima SE with 69500 miles. I have been reading everyone's complaints about their transmissions and mine is doing the same thing too. When it gets warm, my transmission seems to slip, and when downshifting, it thumps and jerks. It only seems to have the problems in the lower gears.

I decided to go online and research this problem, and this is unreal about this transmission. I didn't think I was going to find this out, I thought it was just mine doing this. They need to recall it! Powertrain warranty only covers up to 60000.

Also my A/C started acting up when I only had 35000 miles.
