2003 Nissan Murano SL

Summary:

FAR MORE than I'd hoped for, but only the great dealer service kept me from dumping it in 2004

Faults:

2500 Miles: Replaced visor clip. Didn't work permanently. Replaced visor and clip at 35000 miles.

5000 Miles: Alternator failed. Towed off NJ Tpke at midnight under warranty.

8000 Miles: Transmission noise led to replacement of transmission under warranty.

25000 miles: Chattering brakes led to replacement of brake rotors under warranty.

35000 miles after multiple dealer visits they fixed a rumble noise by replacing the fuel pump located in the fuel tank. Parts took five weeks to arrive.

35000 miles dealer diagnosed a whine as a failing transfer case. repair/replacement is scheduled for when parts arrive.

General Comments:

I love the Murano. It fits our needs perfectly! We made several trips in winter weather from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh via the PA Turnpike. It handled it great.

The second row seating is the most comfortable of all the SUV's I tested,

However, IF I keep it I'll be buying some kind of extended warranty. It reminds me of an old Jag. Very pretty and great fun to drive, but you better have a Honda as a backup.

2003 Nissan Murano

Summary:

Great car with expensive little parts

Faults:

I have had my Murano since 2003 with no problems. It rides great and is very comfortable with a lot of leg room.

It is not as good on gas as quoted, but it is within reason.

I find it difficult to back up in the Murano as it's windows are small on the back sides and it is hard to see what is behind you.

The car has been recalled for the alternator, but I believe they gave me a new one when I toke it in.

General Comments:

My reason for writing this review is that I had a break light go out in the back. I bought the bulb for four dollars, but found out I couldn't replace the bulb myself because of the way the Nissan cars are made. So I had to make a trip to the dealer to get it fixed. They charged me eleven dollars plus to put the bulb in with the bulb I had already bought. The serviceman told me that eighty percent of Nissan's have to go to the dealer to replace bulbs and he said headlights and signal lights were even worse. I find this to be to be inconvenient and expensive little side repair. I will think twice before I buy another Nissan because of this.

Sorry pal, but I had to literally laugh out loud after reading your review. You're contemplating never buying a Nissan again because the dealer charged you $11 "plus" dollars to put in a bulb because you didn't know how? While that's funny enough on its own, I'm a 19 year-old chick and I've never had a problem with replacing lights twice on my Nissan. It's possible; you just need a Haynes Repair manual or FSM. And dealers are notorious for over-charging...you're lucky it only cost you $11. You're silly. It's just a brake light.

Just hope that a Xenon headlamp doen't ever go out. Those are around 100 dollars to have replaced and the dealers HAVE to replace them. They are extremely delicate and hard to work with.

2003 Nissan Murano SL AWD 3.5L

Summary:

This is an Amazingly Fun SUV

Faults:

The car had the squeaking brakes when backing out of my garage that were fixed with new pads per a service bulletin.

The drivers seat had a rocking problem that was fixed with new seat rails (also a svc bulletin).

There is also a window rattle that comes & goes that the dealer hasn't been able to locate, but other than these 3 items it, only been oil changes & 31k trouble free miles.

General Comments:

I love this SUV, it is roomy with very good perfomance & decent gas mileage. The 2nd row seating is also very roomy and the styling is on the cutting edge. Although there are more MO's on the road these days, it still gets you noticed.
