1989 Nissan Pulsar NX 1.6

Summary:

Sick!

Faults:

Few rock chips on the paint.

General Comments:

Awesome condition, it is definitely a flashback to the past.

Its handling is quite good with performance rims, and a new exhaust system makes this thing fly!

1989 Nissan Pulsar NX 1.6

Summary:

We love this car, and we'll repair it until we can't find parts

Faults:

The rear struts were froze up when we bought it.

We found out shortly after purchase that the timing chain guides had broken, and the chain had worn through the timing cover, which is also the oil pump.

The new timing set gear broke after 20 minutes. Local machine shop replaced 2 bent valves and had to "straighten" the warped head. The overhead cam was seized because the warp was so bad. That is why the new timing set failed.

At 169,000 the clutch went.

At 171,000 the manual tranny went.

The halfshafts went bad around 171,700.

Muffler failed at 173,000.

The headlight mechanism has never aimed properly.

General Comments:

Not very quick from a standstill.

Has good handling with good tires.

Vibration causes rattling at times in body parts.

Back seat is very small, so we leave it folded down.

Very comfortable seats.

1989 Nissan Pulsar NX 1.6

Summary:

Enjoy The Ride

Faults:

The master cylinder went out at 138000.

Changed The brakes at 138000.

Changed the blown speakers as soon as I got it.

General Comments:

The car is fast considering that it is only a 1.6.

Think the top speed is about 135 give or take a couple of mph.

The car handles great.

The first car for me to have T tops.

It is fun to drive all around.

1989 Nissan Pulsar NX 1.6L

Summary:

Awesome car

Faults:

Well lets see, I have had the timing chain done.

Struts.

CV Boots.

Alternator.

Battery (2 times)

And one of the gauges.

Of course this is a over a matter of 12yrs to remember, so when you break down the cost of some of the expensive stuff, it really doesn't work out to to much.

My seats are starting to wear out.

I have a bit of rust starting to show on the passenger side on the lower black rock guard close to the back wheel.

And some rust on the metal part that attaches to the windshield.

General Comments:

Its been a great car to me, I get a lot of comments on my car and how it looks because it is in such great shape.

It has been reliable.

Considering how old this car is, the style of it is still with the times and doesn't look like an older car.

1989 Nissan Pulsar NX-XE 1.6litre SOHC

Summary:

Fun, reliable, well-made.

Faults:

Numerous things have gone wrong, however considering I've driven this car under every conceivable weather and road condition over the past 7 years, it's been MORE than reliable.

I'm fortunate enough to be able to work on this vehicle (mechanically speaking) myself, and have learned a great deal about it's operation.

I've had to replace the timing chain (and cover, since it was worn-through from chain-stretching), clutch and pressure plate, numerous fusible links, and most recently, a voltage regulator for the throttle-body.

I SHOULD replace the struts all around as well as the one for the rear hatch. Small things continue to fail, but look at the mileage this thing's got!

General Comments:

I've never hesitated to start my Pulsar in any weather and drive the 60 km. to work. It is equally reliable in -30 as in +30.

The compression is weak, it burns a bit of oil, the exhaust manifold is cracked... a NORMAL car wouldn't be running at all!

The hood wasn't latched and consequently blew completely off one day (on the highway), and has since been replaced with a a different-colored one (now spray painted flat black). I've replaced both side windows (victims of vandalism), and am confident that, since they're installed properly and with the elaborate mechanism, they will not fail. They car still looks pretty darn good.
