1990 Nissan Sentra Coupe 1.6 Liter

Summary:

Good first car for a novice driver

Faults:

All replacements and services are after 65,000 miles.

1) The muffler broke off the exhaust pipe which lead to the replacement of the whole exhaust system.

2) The radiator leaked all the anti-freeze which damaged the water pump. Both replaced.

3) The front left axle broke. The car needed to be towed to the shop.

4) Engine and transmission leaks.

General Comments:

This is my first car and I still drive it daily.

I brought this from my good friend who left the car sitting for a while.

The car was not taken good care of.

All the major problems showed up after 65,000 miles and they will show up one after another.

These problems are not that cheap to repair.

But once you have it fixed, the car will be trouble free for a long time.

This is not a car for someone with a bad back.

You can feel every little bump on the road which can be good and bad for a driver.

Eats little gas like a Civic.

Good cockpit view, plenty of interior space front and back.

This is a good car overall.

1990 Nissan Sentra 1.6 gas

Summary:

Dr. Jekel and Mr. Hyde, it works great... when it's working

Faults:

The timing chain went just after 100 000km's.

The rear shocks had to be replaced.

The CV joints and axles have had numerous problems, had them replaced.

Spark plug cords were arching, replaced them.

The fuel pump also died on me, that was replaced.

Cabin heating fan also broke... no heat is not a good thing up north.

Rear brake cylinder needed replacing, as well as the usual maintenance.

I found that Nissan charges a fortune to service the car, they do good work, but it's not cheap...

General Comments:

The car still looks good, inside and out.

It's not very comfortable to ride in, the shocks are very stiff, it doesn't handle bumps very well, and the seats are pretty uncomfortable.

The car gets pretty good gas mileage, but it costs a fortune to keep on the road. I can usually expect one thing per year, to break down, that, if not fixed will prevent the car from working.

I can say though that it runs good (when everything is fixed) and it always starts in the winter.

I have a 90 Sentra with 61,900 miles. It was working great until a week ago and now it cranks, but won't start. What kind of "no start" problems have you had? Any advice or web-sites you can recommend?
