1991 Nissan Sentra SE-R 2.0 liter

Summary:

Incredible drive on good days, but overall inconsistent

Faults:

Dealer had to repair the fuel line before I could buy it originally.

Dealer had to replace the front seatbelts before I could buy it.

Spare wheel well was a pool of water when I first bought the car, but hasn't given me problems since I emptied it and replaced some plugs.

Fifth gear in transmission stopped engaging around 135000 miles ($700 repair)

Fifth gear again stopped engaging around 143000 miles (have yet to repair)

Replaced O2 sensor.

Replaced Alternator.

Flexible portion of exhaust line is rusted through.

Moon roof leaks occasionally.

Rear defroster stopped working.

Front suspension was shot around 137000 miles.

General Comments:

I heard great things about this car and expected more from mine. Unfortunately I just seem to have gotten one that was run hard and put away wet. Perhaps if it were better cared for before it got to me I would have had a better time with it.

The car feels great and really sporty with the 5 speed manual. On the good days it was a great car to take off from a stop and drive on curvy roads. But the whole thing started failing on me far too early for it to be worth the cost to keep it going. I've had it for 3 years and intended to use it regularly, but with all the things that have gone wrong with it I haven't even been able to drive it enough to get 10000 miles per year out of it.

Sadly, I cannot suggest spending more than $3000 for this car now.

Are you selling the car?

1991 Nissan Sentra SE in-line 4 1.6 litres

Summary:

Great car, OK performance, great price!

Faults:

My transmission failed, and had to be changed, this was apparently caused by a grinding of a part. It turned out the previous owner probably didn't even know automatic transmissions need transmission fluid. Cost me 650 $ CAD, a bargain.

My muffler is all rusted out, and the car is really loud. It's a pain, but that's the reality of it, and it costs me too much for a new muffler, I need to replace the entire thing, would cost me about 700 $ CAD.

My front left head light just died on me, I changed the bulb, but it didn't fix it, I'm guessing I gotta replace that.

The rims on this car are WEAK. I had to replace three already, and my spare is dented. Must be the candian roads. My Oldsmobile never had problems with that tho, ahh well.

My ventilation only works at max or off, nothing in between works.

The reception on all Sentras I have driven have terrible radio reception.

The shifter on the auto doesn't always unlock by pressing the brakes, you have to press a little button at the base of the shifter to unlock it. I think it's a recall fix, but I never looked into it.

The paint on this car is terrible, I have lost almost 75% of my clear coat, and the paint is all fainted out on the roof.

The axles needed changing in the first month that I had the car, at about 152000.

My mileage is terrible, its much worst then it should be, I don't know why.

General Comments:

All in all, this car has gone through 5 months of my driving it, and it is still going. It's practically made of steel, I can't believe that car is still functioning and in one piece.

Although I'm selling it for a risky VW jetta wolfsburg.. I'm gonna sell it to my good friend so it stays next to me for years to come..

Although it only has 90 horsepowers, I race this car quite often onthe highway at over 160 kilometers an hour.. the car feels very sloppy at those speeds, I'm usually forced to put two hands on the wheel, but in general, you can get pretty good power out of it if you floor it even with an auto!

Did I mention I bought this car for only 900 $ CAD, and I put almost 900$ CAD on it to bring it to full functionality.

For me.. that's a bargain.
