1991 Nissan Stanza EX 2.4L

Summary:

Overall, is a nice, solid car

Faults:

I bought this car from my mother-in-law, who had it 12 years & took good care of it (regular maintenance). I drive 134 miles a day to-from work with it. The engine crapped out on me at approx 130,000 - I'm pretty sure the timing belt/chain broke. The spark plugs were all smashed on the tips when the mechanic (unfortunately a fly-by-night one) investigated the problem. He put in a used engine & tranny, which later overheated & was "fried" at about 190,000. I found a good mechanic & he got a good used motor to fix it up. Unfortunately, we didn't change out the "overheated" tranny, & it failed about 220,000. Finally got it fixed up again.

General Comments:

Get about 22-24 MPG.

Overall the car is sound - great pickup, good handling. The power equipment (locks, windows, cruise) still works. The A/C is original compressor & coil - does the job of cooling the car in the South.

I replaced the old cassette player & speakers with a Kenwood CD player when I got it.

It has lots of room - slept in it a few times while doing Katrina duty down here.

It has the old type seat belts that slide up over the door when you get in - been hit in the head a few times. Normal wear & tear.

Faults:

Well my brother originally received the car from our aunt. And he was driving it until he left for the Marine Corps. One day he was driving home, taking an exit off of the highway and he pushes on the brakes, and the rear left brake exploded. Literally. They caught on fire and everything.

Once I gained possession of the car a few years later, the same thing happened to me. I push on the brakes and the drum and shoes explode, catching on fire. I have fixed it since then. My mom doesn't trust me taking the car on the highway for fear of it breaking down again.

I tend to believe the one part that is causing this is the self adjuster. Which is IMPOSSIBLE to locate in any online store. I'm not entirely sure if that is what's causing this problem, but I think that's what it is. If anyone else has had problems similar, please feel free to contact me. allexpoole@yahoo.com

1991 Nissan Stanza XE 2.4 litre

Summary:

A smart choice that will last many, many years!

Faults:

I had to replace the fuel pump at 240,000 miles, the water pump at 256,000 miles And a high pressure power steering hose at 258,000 miles.

General Comments:

I love my Bermuda blue Stanza, it has been a great car! I have had very little trouble with it and it has been very reliable! It does not matter what the temperature is, the car always starts! The car is very solid, still runs and drives great!!I get 20-25 miles per gallon! Very impresive for a car this old and with 270,000 miles on it!

1991 Nissan Stanza XE

Faults:

This car was amazing. After it hit 100K, it basically fell apart -- starting leaking gas, etc. But, my expectations were far exceeded.

General Comments:

Lasted forever. Seats could be better, though.

1991 Nissan Stanza XE 2.4L

Summary:

This is a great reliable car

Faults:

Transmission went out at 165000 miles.

Exhaust manifold cracked, which is typical with Nissans.

Alternator (original) went out at 170k.

Power window switch broke for the right back door on the remote panel.

A/C is out of freon (150k). Needs a conversion.

General Comments:

Overall, this is an great car, other than the tranny going out. Very reliable.

My dad bought the car new, and gave it to me at 155k. Has 193k on it now, and I still drive it.

I will have to get rid of it because I wrecked it, but I still drive it for now. Would buy another quickly.
