1994 Oldsmobile 88 LS V6

Summary:

Although I have had a few problems with my 88, I would not trade it in, I love it!!!!!

Faults:

Harmonic balancer - A lot of people actually thought the engine was knocking (professionals).

It also led me to change:

Tension pulley.

Transmission was going bad; since I had the money at the time, I bought a brand new one.

Brand new radiator.

Thermometer.

Alternator (several), which I later found out was from a bad computer chip.

All new wires, spark plugs.

Now most recently my air conditioning has gone out... mechanic says bearings have gone bad in my compressor.

When I got the A/C filled with freon.. After turning the car off, the A/C was still blowing. Now my relay is gone bad. Had to bypass the A/C and get a shorter belt.

General Comments:

I love my gold '94 88. It was my first car. I'm a female and I just love the handling of this big car. The car rides smooth as hell, and even though gas is high, it's still reasonable to fill up.

The leather seats are almost like brand new. I only wish I could get a fresh paint job. I think it's smooth as hell and gangsta.

1994 Oldsmobile 88 LSS 3.8 Tuned Port

Summary:

Happy after one day

General Comments:

Just purchased a 94 oldsmobile 88 LSS, original owner with 97K, very clean with all paperwork.

Wondering what I need to be on the lookout for if I was going to go on a road trip?

Owner claimed 22 town and 24-26 highway mileage, is this legit?

Paid 3K for it, was this a decent deal?

Engine compartment super clean, entire car really is, seems to drive well and have lots of power.

Can you give me an idea on how the traction control works and when and how you use it? Is it just automatic or is there a button somewhere? Thanks.

Feel kind of strange as it was certainly wasn't purchased for sex appeal or wow factor, rather I just needed something dependable and didn't have a ton of money to spend, hope the choice will be a good one.

"Can you give me an idea on how the traction control works and when and how you use it? Is it just automatic or is there a button somewhere? Thanks."

- The traction control cuts down on wheel spin when the car's computer senses that. It does this by reducing engine power & applying the brakes to the spinning wheel or wheels. It's automatic, but can be turned off by a switch either on the dashboard or the console.

For the 3800 engine 22mpg in mixed city/interstate driving could be expected on a good day its more like 20/21mpg. If you take a road trip expect 30/31mpg. If its pure city driving I would say you'll get anywhere from 17-19mpg. I got 15mpg one time, but I was hot roding my car. I'm only 20, what can I say. :)

One glitch in the car we purchased this past weekend; when you hit the switch to lock all doors the passenger side door sticks part way down and does not lock. Anyone have a suggestion on a fix? Thanks.

1994 Oldsmobile 88 Royale LS 3.8L

Summary:

If you find one, BUY IT!!

Faults:

Alternator at about 30,000 miles.

Brakes - regular wear and tear.

Rotors and calipers at 188,000 miles.

Water pump at about 70,000.

"Computer" for sensors at 189,000.

General Comments:

The best car I've ever owned. I plan to keep it as long as I can. This car has almost 200,000 miles on it and I have had no major repairs (thank God).

It is very comfortable, roomy, extremely reliable and responds very well to the gas pedal.

I don't drive it as much any more because my primary mode of transportation is a motorcycle. The car sits untouched for weeks at a time, but it starts up right away, as if I had driven it 30 minutes earlier.

I can't say enough good things about this car.
