1999 Oldsmobile Alero GL 2.4

Summary:

Very disappointing for the money spent and being spent on this car

Faults:

I would not recommend this vehicle to anyone!!

There was a recall on the latch for the center console.

We have had the brakes changed 3 times since 2001. I see from other reviews that this is a common problem. Replaced rotors twice and pads 3 times.

The driver side window stabilizer and motor had to be replaced. If you have this problem and no warranty try you local salvage yard. I got one brand new for less than half of what the dealers here were asking and got it installed by our local auto glass center for $25. SO CHECK AROUND.

The fan speed switch only works on high.

As of today, I have to turn it over twice every time I want to leave in it. It just chugs the first time.

The cruise control went out in 2002.

The black trim on the outside of the doors is fading and chipping.

Rear defrost no longer works, as of winter 2002.

The black rubber molding around the windows is warped and pulling away from the window.

The dome light in the car keeps falling down. Needs replaced.

The seats are very uncomfortable and my husband and I have had back and neck pain due to riding more than an hour or so in the car. I have never experienced problems like those riding in any other vehicle.

I know I have a long list here and am disappointed that I sold my very reliable Mercury Mystique, this car does handle well on the road. I do get fairly descent gas mileage. Approximately 32mpg. It is a sharp looking car also. Those are the only good things I can say about the Olds Alero.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No

I have a 1999 alero bought it in 2001 had 30,000 miles on it after I bought it it was in the shop for 55 times fixing things from the water pump alternator, brakes rotors head gasket's power steering pump, wheel bearings, this car has given me nothing, but headaches know it needs work again. I have the loaded sunroof spoiler leather loaded every option. went for the lemon law, but waited to long so I only got back my 15,000 for the extended warranty I bought. Paid a lot of money for this car and the body is great, but bad under the hood. I would get rid of it if I were you I took mine today to look for a new car and they offered me 2,000 what a joke going to get it fixed one more time and then sell it, the price for repairs is $1,638.00 for repairs this time, go's in the shop Friday September 1st 2006.

1999 Oldsmobile Alero 3.1 V6

Summary:

Just another GM money trap...AVOID!!!

Faults:

Alternator went bad a couple of months ago. Now the battery warning light comes on every now and then, which has me worried.

The driver side power windows are damaged. The plastic clips holding the window to the regulator fell apart. I believe they were glued back together. You CAN'T buy just the clips & replace, you have to replace the ENTIRE window regulator, which costs $260. I don't think so.

Car seems to use an awful lot of anti-freeze. The low coolant light comes on QUITE often.

General Comments:

This was a nice car... for a while. My wife liked it. I'm not so sure anymore. The seats are uncomfortable for my 6'1" frame.

We got the car with decently low miles, and should NOT have these problems, regardless of vehicle age.

I doubt I will EVER buy another newer car again. They are ALL DEFECTIVE in some way, shape or form.

Avoid the Alero, folks. TRUST ME.

I am completely upset about all of the comments I have just read on this web site. I just bought my 99 Alero GL from a local dealership for about $13,000. It had only two previous owners, and both had done modifications to it. There has had some engine work done to it, but I am having a problem with the window regulator, the exhaust system is pretty crappy to say the least, and the tranie is kind of choppy every once in awhile. It acts like it doesn't know what gear it wants to go in to? Thanks for reading.
