2000 Oldsmobile Alero

Summary:

A pretty nice car

The only thing that has gone wrong is my breaks, ever time I press the break petal it makes a loud roaring noise if any else has this problem.

2000 Oldsmobile Alero LX 3.4 V6

Summary:

The Oldsmobile Alero is the best value for my money

Faults:

I haven't had any major problems with my Alero that I bought last August. I have put over 30,000 miles on it since then, and it still runs like a dream. Other than the usual wear and tear (my brakes are starting to grab, but my braking is notorious for being bad!). Occasionally, I've had the tire pressure light come on, but when I would check the tires, one was 12 PSI below the reset value. It has been through one accident ($5400 worth of damage to the right front quarter-panel and wheel-housing), however, there isn't anything major wrong with it.

I have had some problems with the turn signal switch, but after talking with a local dealer, I am getting that replaced free of charge.

General Comments:

This car is a great bargain. The list value of mine is around $10,500 however, I paid close to $9000 for it. I enjoy the comfort and reliability of the car. After driving an unreliable Corsica for 4 years (I didn't even trust it to drive from Manhattan, Kansas to Kansas City!), this car is a dream come true. It handles very well on the hills and curves here, its sleek design has turned heads wherever I have went, and it has proven to be very reliable. I wish Oldsmobile would continue to make these. I plan on driving mine until it dies and I can't fix it anymore.

2000 Oldsmobile Alero GXL 2.4 LD9

Summary:

Definitely would buy an Oldsmobile again

Faults:

Signal lights, short in hazard switch, replaced never had another problem.

E-Brake spring broke, warranty covered.

Manual shifter recall.

60,000 km before first brake job.

Cloth seat in back wore quickly.

General Comments:

My car is a GXL, it's the base model, with all the performance upgrades, minus leather. Bought my car new and have love it ever since, besides a few minor problems, haven't had anything major, clutch is amazing even after 75,000+ kms, and I've been far from easy on the car. Regularly maintained this car will last a long time, the only real thing that has annoyed me is GM Service Dept. (bunch of trained monkeys), but over-all would buy an Oldsmobile again, ashame they've closed the division down after so many years.

I totally agree. I had a 2000 Alero V6 and my turn signals and hazards only worked when they wanted too. I also had problems with the power-steering. My power driver seat quit working and sometimes my windshield wipers wouldn't shut off. I also had the brakes replaced twice in 9 months which is totally ridiculous. I feel your pain. That's why I traded it in on another Ford Ranger (2004). I had a 1997 and had minimal problems.

I too had problems with car. When first bought motor cut out in cool damp morning, brakes done at 47,000km A/C leak rear defog does not work anymore, power steering now starting to go bad traction, can't go anywhere in snow. Last, but not least blown head gasket. I don't recommend an Alero.
