At 132k the part of the Trany went $900.

At 133k the water pump went $500.

This car is killing my retirement savings. What was GM thinking when they pieced this thing together? Nice looking and all, but if you'd like to hold on to your $ do not buy one.

3K$ to get to 133K. Doesn't sound that bad, considiering the ride you were getting. I won't sell my SC 96 Riv, but I drove the V-8 Aurora today, and I'm getting one.

All I have to say is, if spending $3k in repairs by 133k miles is reasonable to you, you must have owned some real piece of $#!% cars. I've owned Ford, Toyota, Plymouth, and 2 Volvos and have NEVER spent that kind of money on repairs! And these were all high mileage cars ranging from 138k to 210k miles. Buy a reliable car and you will see my point.

Summary:

This car is destined to be a classic

Faults:

Water pump belt immediately after I bought the car. Just a case of bad luck.

Prone to overheating if it is left idling on a warm day. I believe this is a common problem with these cars and is, in my opinion related to the fact that there is not a front grille.

2 complete sets of sparks plug wires and 1 set of spark plugs. The car overheated even though it was in limp mode after the water pump belt broke. I believe that this created a problem for the spark plugs. Probably created some hairline cracks in the ceramics. I had the set of wires replaced and the car performed well again. Not for long however and after 1500 km I had a dealer well versed in Cadillac North star engines check the car. They recommended all new spark plugs and wires. I was told that they should both be replaced at the same time. It worked, and the car runs very well again.

General Comments:

I wanted a vehicle with lots of room in the front as well as rear seating areas. Aurora fit the bill.

I test drove a 1995 Lexus LS400 with fewer miles and an original sticker price of $75,000 CD. Used, both cars were selling for the same price of $10,000 CD. I chose the Aurora.

The Aurora was far more comfortable, and has higher quality interior that the Lexus, IMHO.

Only get this car serviced by a technician who works on North star engines. You will experience far less grief.

I get awesome mileage. 33 mpg on the highway cruising at 70mph. City driving is another matter were mileage plummets fairly drastically.

This is an eye catching ride, with impressive passing power and a luxurious interior.

My Aurora came with full service details and bills and was in exceptional shape both inside and out. Although it was a fairly high mileage unit the motor is very sound and performs like new.

1995 Oldsmobile Aurora 4.0 V8

Summary:

I am still happy with the purchase assuming I don't spend any more money fixing it up

Faults:

Most Recent Major Problems: Transmission Problems at 44,000 miles. Service Engine Soon light goes on intermediately, Expense $460.

Air conditioning leaks freon.

Battery Replaced $110.

Fuel Pump Replaced at 38,000 miles.

PCM Replaced at 38,000 miles.

General Comments:

I love this car, its still better to buy a used Aurora and spend a few thousand fixing the car then spending the extra cost for a new car, or used foreign car.

Car handles well, excellent feel, and comfort, love the cat like looks.

But it seems like its getting fixed every couple months, from problems listed above like over heating, gear shifts out of reverse without ease, car stalling, not starting. The car has a mind of its own, it keeps life entertaining.
